West Bloomfield High Singers Give Hour-Long State Capitol Concert

The Laker Express choir performed on Nov. 5 at the request of State Sen. Mike Kowall.

The West Bloomfield High School Laker Express choir performed on Nov. 5 for an hour in the spectacular Michigan Capitol Building Rotunda.

“The Laker Express Choir represented the 15th District well at the Capitol today,” said State Sen. Mike Kowall, who invited the group to perform after hearing them sing "The National Anthem" while on a tour of the school. “Their performance is a testament to the teachers, administrators and dedication of the students of the West Bloomfield School District.”

“The Laker Express performance today at the Michigan State Capitol Rotunda was moving and remarkable," said superintendent Dr. Gerald Hill. "The legislators were impressed with their beautiful voices and the visitors to the State Capitol building were treated to a special performance in an historic setting. Director Sheryl Hauk and the students are to be commended for their musical excellence. Board president Randi Sakwa and I were glad we made the trip to Lansing and were proud to be affiliated with the Laker Express."

The Senate photographer captured the show on video that will be posted on Facebook, so those who weren't able to travel to Lansing can still enjoy the performance.
