West Bloomfield Schools Hires Former Ann Arbor Schools Official

Alesia L. Flye takes over as Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction on Oct. 21.

West Bloomfield school board members on Monday approved the hiring of Alesia L. Flye for the position of Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction.

The position's compensation is set at $128,000 annually, according to district spokesperson Pamela Zajac.

Superintendent Gerald Hill in a press release called Flye a “proven executive leader in high performing school districts, with a commitment to student growth and academic excellence”.

Most recently, Flye was Deputy Superintendent of Instructional Services for Ann Arbor Public Schools, serving over 16,000 students in 32 schools. Prior to that, she served as Director of Curriculum for Rochester Community Schools.

Flye's background also includes Utica Community Schools, where her predecessor Robert Martin has been hired as chief of staff. She taught there, and served as Executive Administrator of Schools and Director of Human Resources.

In the release, Flye said that while “it is always challenging to leave a school district when you have established relationships", she is looking forward to continuing to work on programs that positively impact student learning. Her immediate areas of focus will include strengthening school improvement and working on a budget analysis project.

Flye said that a combination of academic excellence, diversity, and respect in the community all contributed to the appeal of this position. She begins work on Oct. 21.
