West Bloomfield Schools Students Expected Back in Class Thursday

An extended winter break ends as temperatures climb above zero.

It looks like West Bloomfield School District's extended winter break is finally over.

Spokesperson Pam Zajac said the district expects to reopen Thursday, a week after winter break officially ended on Jan. 2. Heavy winter storms, followed by below zero temperatures, kept schools closed.

"There have been some issues regarding both buildings and buses but nothing that will prevent us from reopening," Zajac said.

Maintenance workers have resolved issues with frozen pipes, minor roof leaks, and intermittent boiler failures, all due to the cold weather, she said. In addition, some buses have required repairs.

Thursday's forecast calls for a high of 23 and calm winds. Temperatures are expected to remain above zero for the rest of week.
