Eaglets' Ross Headed to U.S. Army Bowl

The senior middle linebacker will represent the state of Michigan at the high school all-star game Jan. 7 with one other player from Detroit Cass Tech.

James Ross, who helped lead two weeks ago, was selected to participate in the 2012 U.S. Army All-American Bowl in San Antonio, TX, in January.

“This means so much to me, I can barely explain how I feel in words,” Ross told a small gathering of family, friends and press on Thursday at the True Rock Church in Detroit, according to a report by the Oakland Press.

, who for three years went to Ford Field in Detroit to try and win the state championship and walked away empty-handed the first two, said after the championship:  "I knew what we had and I knew what we were capable of, and I had no doubt we’d be back in the same place we finished last year.

A former member of the Westside Cubs in the Detroit Police Athletic League, Ross played from boyhood through middle school with some of the finest talent in the Metro Detroit area. The Cubs play their championship games at Ford Field, which are also the home games for the Prep Bowl — the Catholic League championship game, which St. Mary's has fallen in the past three years.

, said after the state title game that attending and playing football at St. Mary's has helped Ross become more mature. "I've seen the growth over the years, from a boy, to a young man," she said. "He's making decisions on his own, with our input. Sometimes, he gets up early in the morning to do what he needs to do without anyone telling him what he needs to do to handle his business."

Ross will take his talents to the University of Michigan next season.
