Lakers Marching Band Tops at Huron Valley, to Perform at State Championship

The West Bloomfield High School marching band won the Flight I competition Saturday and will perform next Saturday morning at Ford Field.

A week after hosting the , the West Bloomfield High School marching band continued an excellent run with a first-place finish at the Huron Valley Invitational in White Lake.

finished with a score of 86.39, good enough for first in Flight I over L'Anse Cruse, who finished at 85.28.

On Sunday, it was announced that the band will compete in the Michigan Competing Band Association state finals Nov. 5 at Ford Field. The Lakers will compete against 11 other schools including Lakeland, Novi and Walled Lake Central in the Flight I finals. The Lakers will go on at 10:45 a.m. – the second-to-last performance of the Flight I entrants.

At the West Bloomfield Invitational, director Jeremy Figlewicz expressed satisfaction with the season to that point.

"We feel like the kids are continuing to step up and that they’re beginning to appreciate the show and give their best, and that’s all we ask," Figlewicz said.
