"It's amazing because when compared to other synagogues in the area, ours is a smaller congregation, so in theory we have less talent to choose from," said Sid Mintz, a congregant at Shir Shalom whose son, Eric, played for the championship team. "We're proud of the guys."

The brotherhood softball team is made up of congregants and friends of congregants who have competed in a week-to-week schedule since May 22. Bragging rights are the only prize for the teams who come from Shir Shalom, Beth Ahm, Temple Israel, Kol Ami, Bais Chabad Torah Center, Keter Torah Synagogue, Temple Beth El of Bloomfield Hills, Adat Shalom Synagogue of Farmington Hills, Congregation Shaarey Zedek of Southfield, and Temple Beth Emeth of Ann Arbor.
