The WBHS varsity lacrosse team kicked off its season with an overtime victory against Grosse Ile High School, which head coach Ed Anderson described as never in doubt.

The Lakers trailed 13-10 at the end of the third quarter, but West Bloomfield got the win from a team that beat them twice last season. Senior attacker Nathan Raben had eight goals on nine shots and senior midfielder Alex Lauri had four goals, including the game-tying goal with three seconds left in the fourth quarter as well as the game-winning goal in overtim. Goaltender Harry Smith's defense inspired Anderson to say Smith "basically shut them down in the fourth quarter."
