Walled Lake Western Coach Earns Detroit Lions Honor

Mike Zdebski is named High School Football Coach of the Week.

The Detroit Lions have named Mike Zdebski of Walled Lake Western High School 2013 High School Football Coach of the Week for week eight of the program. 

In his 27th year of coaching, Zdebski has been at Walled Lake Western for 21 seasons, serving as head coach for 16 seasons. Zdebski has posted a career record of 146-64 and has led the Warriors to 13 state playoff appearances, including a Division 1 State Championship in 1999.
 
The importance of player health and safety within the football program is evidenced by utilization of team doctor, Dr. Goldman, who has been on the sideline for football games for 17 years, and Athletic Trainer, Mike Stout.

The training staff adheres to the Michigan High School Athletic Association’s Concussion Management Protocol and the Model Policy for Heat and Humidity, while also educating both the coaching staff and student-athletes on the importance of injury prevention through strength training. 
 
Zdebski led his Warriors to an 8-1 regular season record; the team will face off against Canton High School on Nov. 1 in the first round of the MHSAA (Michigan High School Athletic Association) playoffs at Western. The game starts at 7 p.m. Tickets are $5.

Currently in its’ 17th year, the Detroit Lions High School Coach of the Week program has awarded $312,000 to high school football programs throughout the state of Michigan.
