Week in Sports: Lacrosse, Baseball, Softball

Tired of the snow and cold, West Bloomfield High School players are eager to be back on the field.

The week ahead promises exciting action as several teams at hope to get on the field to play out a full schedule of games. In the words of baseball head coach Eric Pierce, “We’re dying to get out there.” Please check back throughout the week, every week, as West Bloomfield Patch updates with the latest results and statistics from the games.

Monday

Games at West Bloomfield High were canceled because of the snow, while the students of began their weeklong break for Passover. As of Monday night, no games were announced as rescheduled.

Tuesday

The Lakers team’s game at North Farmington has been postponed to May 12, while head coach Ed Anderson said his team is “feeling confident” and “coming together very well” after an 11-3 victory against Walled Lake Western High on Saturday. WBHS stands at 4-2 in part thanks to senior Nathan Rabens’ 31 goals on the season.

Wednesday

The Lakers team returns to the field after a tough loss last Friday at Birmingham Seaholm High. WBHS takes on Farmington High at 4 p.m. Pierce said his team “just needs to eliminate those half-innings” where it has struggled lately en route to its 0-2 record. Last week, Ryan Bilkovic helped the Lakers back from an 0-5 deficit to tie the game against Seaholm going into the fifth inning with a home run, a double, and one inning of solid relief pitching. However, the Lakers fell 7-5 in the sixth inning.

Elsewhere, the Lakers team will kick off Oakland Athletics Association league play with a doubleheader at Lake Orion High beginning at 4 p.m. The 0-2 Lakers team “needs to tighten up its defense,” according to first-year head coach Jaclyn Pilkiewicz, who added that Wednesday’s league opener should be “very exciting” for the team and its fans.

The girls’ team will compete against Novi High at home, at 4 p.m.

Thursday

The Lakers baseball team will play at Walled Lake Central High at 4 p.m., as the girls tennis team plays at Clarkston High at 4. The lacrosse team takes on Royal Oak High at home at 7 p.m.
