West Bloomfield Schools to Sell Athletic Facilities Naming Rights

Business sponsors could have their names on signs at outdoor fields and the high school gymnasium.

West Bloomfield School District athletic director Patrick Watson, in a Nov. 26 letter to The Detroit News, explains the district's decision to sell naming rights for its athletic facilities.

Businesses with naming rights will be recognized on signs posted at the facility and will be able to display their products at the facilities during the games they sponsor, among other benefits.

"Selling athletic naming rights to local businesses can provide an answer to the problem of raising pay-to-participate fees, limit fundraising on an individual team basis, and provide the best equipment and facilities possible to ensure that student-athletes are safe and have the best chance to succeed," Watson wrote.

Rights would be sold to outdoor fields, like the West Bloomfield High football stadium, as well as the high school's gymnasium.
