North Farmington Alum Wins Miss Oakland County Crown

Makayla McCoskey also won the 2013 Miss Mid Michigan title in January

North Farmington High alum Makayla McCoskey, 20, was crowned Miss Oakland County during a pageant held Saturday at the Costick Center

McCoskey, of Farmington Hills, is a student at University of Michigan. She was first runner-up for Miss Farmington in 2010 and, in January of this year, won the first-ever Miss Mid Michigan title. That earned her a trip to the Miss Michigan pageant in June, where Miss Saginaw County Haley Williams was crowned.

First runner-up in the Miss Oakland County pageant is Victoria Lines, 18, of Troy; second runner-up is Ashliegh Allen, 23, of Adrian; third runner-up is MacKenzie Strom, 19, of Commerce; and fourth runner-up is Mollie Smith, 20, of Highland. To qualify, contestants must live, work or attend school in Oakland County.

The Aldo Vagnozzi Community Service Award, named in honor of the late Farmington Hills mayor and state representative, went to Melissa Keith of Wixom. Chelsea Nedrow of Wolverine Lake is this year's Miss America Scholar Winner, and Strom won the Kelly Garver-Nieto Talent and the Kirsten Haglund Lifestyle & Fitness award.

The Non-Finalist Talent Award went to Camille Bridges or Southfield, and the Spirit of Miss America winners are Smith and Keith.

Crowned Saturday afternoon, this year's Miss Oakland County’s Outstanding Teen Winner and Preliminary Talent Winner is Brooklyn Lambert, 16, of Monroe.

The Miss Oakland County pageant is part of the Miss America Program, which operates 12 months a year thanks to more than 300,000 volunteers.

"We would like to personally thank our own community, especially Farmington/Farmington Hills for their support over the past 40 years," local pageant organizer Francesca Tuzzolino said. "Each year, tens of thousands of Miss America volunteers generate more than 500,000 hours of service to over 12,000 community service projects making Miss America one of the strongest service organizations in the country."
