Seniors Relive Classic Cars and Memories at Dream Cruise Event

Fifth annual event by Jewish Senior Life Foundation sees more cars and crowds than ever, according to organizers.

For over 500 seniors at the Fleischman Residence in the  who saw the Jewish Senior Life (JSL) Foundation Dream Cruise Wednesday, the opportunity to feel like a part of the Metro Detroit community again marked a highlight of the calendar.

Over 50 cars were on display at the fifth annual event, such as a 1979 Checker Cab and a 1929 Ford Model A, bringing back memories for residents and their families.

"She said she swore one of the Chevys was hers," said Natalie Grinblatt of Phoenix, who attended with her parents Eli and Edie Grinblatt. "She joked, 'That's my car! How did they get into my garage to get it?' ... Cars mean a lot to us."

JSL Foundation Director Carol Rosenberg explained the goal; to allow West Bloomfield's logistically-challenged senior population, which deals with issues involving their physical mobility as well as transportation from home, to enjoy the classic cars which overtake Woodward Avenue in several communities every summer.

"It's the most perfect day — a bright, blue sky, lots of sun, and the perfect temperatures. We had sponsors for the event who brought us hats and ice cream and our seniors will talk about this for days. I don't think we ever thought it would grow this big, but here we are," Rosenberg said.
