West Bloomfield School Officials Consider Open Carry Resolution

A resolution under consideration at Monday's school board meeting will support adding schools as gun-free zones.

This week starts with the West Bloomfield School District board of education considering a resolution tied to one parent's controversial action at Scotch Elementary School

Here's more information about the gun-free schools resolution and a few events happening during this holiday week:

1. West Bloomfield school board meeting

On Friday, Supt. Gerald Hill posted a message to parents responding to a WJBK-TV news story about a Scotch Elementary parent's YouTube.com video showing him carrying a gun onto school property. According to police, the man's actions were legal, but Hills said school officials during their Monday, 7 p.m., meeting, will consider a resolution supporting an amendment that would make schools gun-free zones. If you can't attend the meeting at West Bloomfield High School, you can watch on Civic Center TV's website

2. Ebert's Notable Films

Join Dr. Tara Hayes from Oakland University Monday, 7 p.m., as she continues her popular film discussions of the noted film critic's favorite films. The topic of discussion at the West Bloomfield Township Library will be The Last Picture Show.

3. Thanksgiving Eve worship service

Everyone in the community is invited to this time of thanks, hosted Wednesday, 7 p.m., at Shepherd King Lutheran Church and Preschool, 5300 W. Maple Road, West Bloomfield.
