Sheiko Elementary School
248-865-6370
Sheiko Elementary School is one of six elementary schools in the West Bloomfield School District and one of 12 schools all together. Principal Robin Kocher leads Sheiko through three school-wide themes each year that are planned and implemented by staff to integrate all facets of the school curriculum. Academics, fine arts, physical education, cultural assemblies and field trips are unified under a common umbrella as 550 students in grades kindergarten through fifth grade study various topics in-depth. Past themes have included A is for America, Passport on a Plate, Once Upon a Fairy Tale, Reading Makes Winter Bearable, E Pluribus Unum — One Out of Many, and Business is Hopping.
Sheiko students also see the value of helping others. The Sheiko student council organized a canned food drive for the Lighthouse of Pontiac, Valentine cards for area nursing homes, a candy drive for the Cancer Society, and a Book Drive for the Detroit Free Press.
Parents meetings take place on the second Tuesday of each month at 7 pm in the media center. Committee members get to know what's happening, meet people who affect their children's education, and discuss ideas for their school. They also host fundraisers and activities.
