Oakland County Court Displays Large American Flag

The flag will be on display through the Fourth of July.

Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson has ordered a large American flag to be draped on the west wing of the Oakland County Circuit Court building at 1200 N. Telegraph Road in Pontiac through the 4th of July. "It serves as a reminder not only of our liberties, but of all those who have sacrificed life or limb to defend our freedom," said Patterson in a press release. The flag's dimensions are 30 feet by 60 feet. It replaces an American flag that was torn by high winds while on display on the west wing of the courthouse last Veteran's Day. The new flag is resistant to high winds. It may be viewed by those passing the Oakland County government campus on Telegraph Road. The flag was purchased from American Flag and Banner in Clawson …

Gov. Snyder Orders Flags Lowered Today

U.S. Army Corporal Joseph A. VanDreumel, 32, of Standale, died Aug. 14 in the Paktika province of Afghanistan.

Gov. Rick Snyder ordered U.S. flags throughout the state to be lowered to half-staff in honor of U.S. Army Corporal Joseph A. VanDreumel today. Flags should be returned to full-staff on Tuesday, Aug. 30.  VanDreumel, 32, of Standale, died Aug. 14 in the Paktika province of Afghanistan while conducting vehicle recovery operations and encountering a secondary explosion. "Cpl. VanDreumel's sacrifice to protect our nation and state will never be forgotten.  My thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends and community at this difficult time," Snyder said. VanDreumel was assigned to the 1st Battalion of the 2nd Infantry Regiment in the 172nd Infantry Brigade stationed in Grafenwoehr, Germany. He joined the Army in January 2010 and trained …
