The following information was provided by the West Bloomfield Township Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.
West Bloomfield Township Police Department reports from Nov. 22-28 included 59 alarms, 26 crashes and 17 arrests. Among the highlights: Police issued a citation to an 18-year-old Dearborn Heights man after he was seen taking items from Kohl's on Nov. 25, according to Lt. Tim Diamond. Diamond said the alleged retail fraud occurred around 8:20 that night, as the suspect was seen by a loss prevention officer taking a shirt and shoes valued at less than $100. After the officer saw this, he called West Bloomfield Police, who tracked the suspect through the parking lot and eventually found him hiding in the trunk of his vehicle, Diamond said. The man was released after he posted bond at the station, Diamond added. "Retail fraud generally …

Businesses both corporate and small have an early start to the biggest shopping weekend of the year.
Deal hunting shoppers this past weekend were running on a full stomach thanks to Zoe’s House of Pancakes, which ran out of bread and orange juice during the busy weekend. “This has been a really good week for us. Wednesday was nuts and Friday was even busier,” Manager Frank Adamopoulos said. Business lingered in the morning and picked up right before lunchtime this weekend at Zoe’s. “We ran out of bread on Saturday and Sunday, and our bread guy said “Man, I knew you were going to run out,” Adamopoulos said. Zoe’s was one of many area businesses which participated in a Small Business Saturday promotion from American Express, which offered a one-time $25 rebate to shoppers spending at least $25 at a small business after registering their …

Black Friday spending reached all-time levels this year, but the biggest jump was in 'couch commerce.' Have you shopped mobile this year?
Spending reached all-time Black Friday highs this weekend as a record 226 million shoppers jumped into holiday purchases – many of them using mobile devices to do so. The average holiday shopper spent $398.62 Black Friday and Saturday, according to a National Retail Federation survey. And Black Friday global mobile payment volume increased 516 percent from 2010, according to data from PayPal. A lot of mobile shopping appeared to take place from the couch following Thanksgiving dinner: Five times as much was spent that day via mobile as was spent on turkey day 2010, PayPal's blog reports. According to eBay, U.S. shoppers purchased nearly 2 1/2 times as many items through mobile devices this Black Friday compared with 2010. What about you…

Shoppers were still hungry for sales after a turkey sandwich.
Area shoppers kept the Black Friday madness going throughout the day as they stopped at local big box stores to score deals. Best Buy drew a crowd of more than 300 shoppers waiting to get their hands on electronics deals that sold out within an hour, said Tyler Deanda, a Bloomfield Hills store employee. “We let about 25 people in at a time to make things go smoother,” Deanda said. A few police officers were stationed outside of the Bloomfield Hills store as well which helped deter any Black Friday brawls. One of the hottest bargains was a Sharp 42-inch television for $199.99. There were also select 99-cent DVD’s and 4.99 Blu Rays. Costco had a more traditional Black Friday opening at 9 a.m., unlike Target and Best Buy’s midnight madness …
Long lines and full parking lots at midnight Thursday were normal sights at Troy's Somerset Collection, Oakland Mall and other local businesses running doorbuster deals for Black Friday.
The promise of big savings on the best products lured thousands of shoppers to Troy stores late Thursday and early Friday morning as Black Friday shopping kicked off at midnight. The north parking lot outside Macy's at the Somerset Collection started to fill up Thursday night as the department store opened its doors to Black Friday shoppers at midnight. The official opening of the mall was moved to 8 a.m., while individual stores staggered their opening times from midnight at Macy's, and 4 a.m., 5 a.m. and 7 a.m. for many other stores. "We went to Great Lakes Crossing first, but we really wanted to shop here because they have all the top quality brand stores," Cash Zhao, who traveled from Mt. Pleasant to the Somerset Collection in Troy, …

Nov. 26 promotion features $25 incentive from American Express to 'shop small.'
This seasonal greeting comes from hometown merchants: Don't be in thrall to the mall. They're spreading the word via social media and window signs with help from American Express, organizer of the second annual Small Business Saturday on Nov. 26. The credit card issuer promotes a nationwide "day dedicated to supporting small businesses on one of the busiest shopping weekends," it explains online. "We’re asking millions of Americans to 'shop small' at their favorite local stores and help fuel the economy. When we all shop small, it will be huge." The firm puts money where its promotion is by offering a one-time $25 rebate to shoppers spending at least $25 at a small business after registering their credit card here. Any non-franchised …
