The Lady Barons prove they too can break records in the program's final season with merger pending; but fall in the district playoffs.
Earlier this month, we told you about the record-setting performance by the Lahser Lady Knights 78-38 rout of Hazel Park. Not to be outdone, the Andover Lady Barons had their own record-setting week to close the regular season of their own. The team set a combined 12 records during the season. Among them: Team Rachel Rea Shannon Wilson Andover won the initial 'Battle for Bloomfield' with a 59-48 win over cross-district rival Lahser at a special game at the O'rena on the Oakland University campus in January. The results the second time around weren't much different. Andover beneffited from a 13-0 spurt at the start of the second half and consistent shooting from its top two scorers to win 53-46 in the first round of the playoffs at Marian…

Classes canceled on Monday and Tuesday, but as pipe contained clean water, no health hazards are obvious.
Students at Bloomfield Hills Lone Pine Elementary School will stay home on Monday and Tuesday while crews work to repair a ruptured heating pipe, school officials said in an email to parents. A heating pipe in a radiator burst sometime this weekend, according to Principal Mary Hillberry, causing clean tap water which was steaming hot to flood the school. Bloomin' Kids preschools, which are operated at the same site, were closed Monday but are scheduled to reopen on Tuesday morning. School on Monday had been called off early in the morning as crews worked to repair the pipe, dry and treat the carpets, and dehydrate the air, Hillberry said. Later Monday morning, parents were notified that K-3 classes would be canceled on Tuesday as well. …

The final sessions for each current grade level affected by next year's merger of Andover and Lahser high schools begin tonight.
Though second semester just got under way in the Bloomfield Hills Schools, there's already a significant level of focus from parents, teachers and administrators on the fall of 2013 and the official start of the new Bloomfield Hills High School. And understandably so. The district's transition plan has the current Lahser High School housing students in 10th through 12th grades in what will become known as the 'main' Bloomfield Hills High School campus. Ninth grade students will be at Hickory Grove, or the 9th grade campus. To help parents navigate the transition to the new high school facility, which won’t be completed on the current Andover site until 2015, the Bloomfield Hills Schools scheduled a series of forums broken up by student …

Officials with the Bloomfield Hills Schools and local law enforcement reiterate these points to help emergency plans following the Newtown tragedy.
In a letter distributed to parents Tuesday, Bloomfield Hills Schools Superintendent Rob Glass said parents play a large role in the district's emergency safety plan. He also said that after a thorough review with local law enforcement — prompted by the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary school — he though it was important to issue these simple, yet important reminders to help keep each building secure and children safe. When visiting, remember to press the doorbell to be buzzed in and proceed immediately to the main office for sign-in. Then be sure to wear your guest ID tag at all times. Our staff may know you by first name, but police and first responders need help in identifying you as a visitor rather than someone who may be a threat…

Dear Mr. C, A payback analysis was done before the last vote on the bond. Rob Glass made it clear in the numerous community forums that he held that, running the combined high school would save slightly more than $2 million dollars per year over the current high school configuration. Recall that right now we have an exceptionally large number of bus runs in order to provide students with the …   more ›
