Unexpected Problems With Power Lines Keep Lanes of Maple-Orchard Lake Intersection Closed

The work that was expected to be completed early Friday morning will last well into the night, officials said.

Several lanes at the intersection of Orchard Lake and Maple roads in West Bloomfield remain closed today for repairs to an underground power line, according to the Road Commission for Oakland County. DTE crews experienced unexpected complications while working on the multiple lanes on both sides of Orchard Lake Road yesterday, a news release stated. The closures were expected to remain through rush hour and up to midnight, but will remain throughout the day Friday, and well into the night. Crews closed the outside southbound lane of Orchard Lake just north of Maple, as well as the westbound outside lane of Maple immediately east and west of Orchard Lake. Lanes Closed at Maple and Orchard Lake Roads for Power Line Repairs

DTE crews shut down several lanes at the heavy intersection because of an underground power line.

Several lanes at the intersection of Orchard Lake and Maple roads in West Bloomfield will be closed today for repairs, according to the Road Commission for Oakland County. DTE crews shut down the outer lanes at the intersection this morning to repair an underground power line, a news release from the RCOC stated. Specifically, the outside southbound lane of Orchard Lake just north of Maple is now closed, as are the westbound outside lane of Maple immediately east and west of Orchard Lake. The closures are expected to remain through rush hour and up to midnight. The release did not say if the repairs are related to the power outage that impacted 300 homes in West Bloomfield Wednesday, or  the outage  that left more than 5,000 without power …

Underground Equipment Trouble Knocks Out Power for 300 in West Bloomfield

Hundreds of homes near Farmington Road and Maple are without power Wednesday morning, DTE says, after heavy snow fell overnight.

More than 300 households in West Bloomfield are waking up Wednesday without power, according to the latest reports from DTE Energy. At least 300 DTE Energy customers are without power west of Farmington Road and north of Maple Wednesday morning, according to the DTE Outage Map. The outage is due to "problem with underground equipment," DTE says, with restoration times expected between 9:30-11:30 p.m. Wednesday. West Bloomfield is also waking up Wednesday with a winter weather advisory after several inches of wet, heavy snow fell overnight — closing West Bloomfield Schools as well as several area private schools. Public Service Agency Report Recommends Smart Meter Opt Out Option

A DTE spokesperson tells The Detroit News an opt out fee proposal will be presented to the Michigan Public Service Commission.

A recently completed Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC) report recommends that DTE Energy allow customers to opt out of its "smart meter" program, according to today's Detroit News.  The report is part of an MPSC investigation, launched in January after a number of local governments passed resolutions asking the agency to look into the meters, which measure and record electricity usage with digital technology and transmit data to DTE via radio frequency waves.  DTE plans to install the meters for all of its 4 million customers over the next several years, according to the company's website. High winds knocked out power throughout large portions of Metro Detroit Friday night and into Saturday. In West Bloomfield, 2,244 DTE customers were without power as of 3:15 p.m. in the 48322 and 48323 ZIP codes. Thie biggest outage stretches south of Walnut Lake Road all the way past 14 Mile Road, with Farmington Road on the east and Drake Road to the west. In the biggest outage, in which 1,212 DTE customers are impacted, DTE estimates the power will be restored between 9-11 p.m. Saturday, according to the DTE Outage Map.
