Help Kids Deal with News of Farmington Schools Substitute Teacher Sex Crime Charge

The district offers parents advice the wake of charges that a substitute teacher had inappropriate conduct with an elementary school student.

After news broke Friday about a Farmington Public Schools substitute teacher facing a charge of criminal sexual conduct, school officials released an email filled with tips to help families cope with the news.  The email advised "safety first", keeping the conversation general, unless the child brings up specifics. The email also recommends limiting exposure to media reports and adult conversations about the incident. It's worth mentioning that in the year 2013 - our youth has learned (via the web) that "pranks" resembling the allegations against this man are acceptable forms of behavior. Our youth cannot see past five minutes into the future and literally have NO CLUE what the damage can be from a stunt like this. West Bloomfield Federal Agent Draws His Gun During 'Road Rage' Incident

The man told police the other driver, a Farmington Hills man, was aggressive and he feared for his daughter, who was with him at the time.

A 44-year-old West Bloomfield Township man who identified himself as a federal agent drew his weapon during a "road rage" incident involving a Farmington Hills man last Friday afternoon in the area of Nine Mile and Middlebelt.  According to Farmington Hills police, officers drove to Seven Mile Road and Middlebelt, where Livonia officers were talking with both drivers. The Farmington Hills man told police that the West Bloomfield Township man cut him off and forced him into on-coming traffic while merging into a lane just south of East Middle School. The Farmington Hills man said he and the other driver pulled over, exchanged words, and the other driver pulled a gun on him and displayed a badge. The report indicated that witnesses told …

Police: Woman in Yoga Clothes Wanted for Theft in Birmingham

Here are some of the biggest stories on Patch: Birmingham Police are on the lookout for a woman believed to have stolen a necklace from Flash Accessories around 1 p.m. Monday, according to Birmingham Patch. According to a surveillance video and employee testimony, a white woman wearing yoga clothes and carrying a yoga mat over her shoulder entered the shop on South Old Woodward around 1 p.m. and began looking through some jewelry. After she left the store, employees noticed a necklace was missing, police reports state. Surveillance videos shows the woman taking the necklace and walking out of the store. Birmingham High School Mourns Loss of Late Teacher Frank Ventrella

Here's a recap of the biggest stories around West Bloomfield during the week of Nov. 19-24.

A lot happened this past week, and we want to make sure you didn't miss a thing. Here are some of the biggest stories on Patch: Birmingham Seaholm High School is mourning the loss of one of its own after special education teacher Frank Ventrella passed away Nov. 18, according to a report from Birmingham Patch. Ventrella, 53, a 25-year Seaholm instructor and Northville resident, passed away after a lengthy battle with pancreatic cancer. During his years with Birmingham Public Schools, Ventrella worked extensively with the district's Autistic Education Program. A funeral service was held Wednesday at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church in Plymouth. All donations can be made to the Unlimited Strides Scholarship Fund in care of Frank Ventrella. A …

UPDATED: Ohio Man Faces Charges in 'Road Rage' Assault on Farmington Hills Woman

UPDATED: Farmington Hills Police have identified 52-year-old Steven Schut of Youngstown, OH, as the driver facing aggravated assault and marijuana possession charges, following a road rage incident at a Farmington Hills gas station Saturday. WXYZ-TV obtained a copy of the video surveillance footage that shows Schut assaulting a 34-year-old Farmington Hills woman. The video does not show how the fight began. According to a police report, officers called to the station at 13 Mile and Orchard Lake found a 34-year-old Farmington Hills woman who had been injured. She told police that a driver who cut her off on Orchard Lake followed her into the gas station, and when she asked him not to damage her vehicle, he aggressively bumped her with his …

Crime Report: Driver With Xanax in Pocket Tells Police 'Those Aren't My Shorts'

Two West Bloomfield men, ages 19 and 20, face charges of possessing synthetic drugs with intent to distribute, following a traffic stop by Farmington Hills Police on June 21.  According to the report, police stopped the vehicle after the driver disobeyed a traffic signal on the M-5 ramp near Halsted. The report said that the driver and passenger both had difficulty keeping their eyes open and slurred speech. After a search of the driver turned up a bottle containing 14 Xanax pills in the pocket of the shorts he was wearing, the man told police, "Those aren't my shorts." A search of the vehicle uncovered prescription bottles containing more than 200 Xanax pills, according to the report. In addition to the narcotics charges, the driver was …

West Bloomfield Woman Blocks Attempted Photograph in Clothing Store Dressing Room

A 30-year-old West Bloomfield woman told police she was in a changing room at a clothing store on Orchard Lake Rd. around 4:30 p.m. Monday, when she spotted a dark gray cell phone slide underneath the wall, camera side up.  According to the report filed with Farmington Hills police, the woman had removed her shirt and pants to try on clothing when the incident occurred. She told police that she kicked at the phone and called out to the person in the adjacent room, but did not receive an answer. After dressing, she left the changing room and contacted a sales person. Surveillance cameras showed the suspect entering and leaving the store, but did not show his activity in the changing room. According to the report, the man in his 30s, about 5…

Principal Meets with Students Following North Farmington Lockdown

Reaction was strong to a Wednesday drill and K-9 search of lockers and vehicles.

North Farmington High Principal Joseph Greene met with student leaders at the school Friday to discuss concerns about a lockdown drill that resulted in the arrest of a 17-year-old student Wednesday.  The student was ticketed for marijuana possession after a small amount of the drug was found in his car, Farmington Hills Police Chief Chuck Nebus said Wednesday.  In a letter to parents distributed through the district's list serv Friday, Greene wrote that the drill was conducted in coordination with local law enforcement, "to afford their K-9 units an ideal training environment."
