New Supt. Hill Speaks on Retirement

Gerald Hill will leave June 30th after eight years with a district in Glenview, IL Hill is now eligible to collect his full Illinois pension, in addition to the $190,000 per year superintendent salary he recently accepted in West Bloomfield.

After accepting a position as superintendent of schools in West Bloomfield last Saturday, Gerald Hill, 60, talked with Patch about the reasons for his departure from Glenview, IL.   Several years ago, because of family circumstances that would take him out-of-state, Hill said he approached the Board in anticipation of parting ways with the district. “I had originally intended to stay through 68 [years old],” he said. “The board and I decided to instead work on a senior leadership transition, allowing us to bring a new team into the district.” Hill announced his retirement at an Oct. 3 board meeting, and the same night, current Deputy Superintendent Michael Nicholson was appointed District’s 34’s newest superintendent, the 7th in the …

Hill spoke to Patch over the phone from his home in Glenview, IL, where he worked for eight years as superintendent before tentatively accepting the job Saturday.

UPDATE: Gerald Hill Tentatively Accepts West Bloomfield Superintendent Job

The retiring superintendent from Glenview, IL, accepted the position, pending negotiations, just hours after it was extended early Saturday. He would replace JoAnn Andrees.

The day after being interviewed and just hours after he was offered the job, Illinois educator Gerald Hill tentatively has agreed to become superintendent of the West Bloomfield School District. Hill, 60, the retiring superintendent of the school district in Glenview, IL, was offered the position early Saturday after the West Bloomfield Board of Education unanimously voted to extend an offer. The board interviewed Hill and two other candidates on Friday, and a fourth early Saturday in the Administrative and Community Services building as they searched for a successor to retiring superintendent JoAnn Andrees. With all of the cuts being made in this district, how can they even justify a salary of $190,000??!!! Needs to be about half that amount. Then maybe all of the dedicated transportation and maintenance people could keep their jobs!!!   more ›
