Mosaic Artists Donate to Henry Ford Hospital

For Huntington Woods artist Joan Schwartz, mosaics are an "addiction." For Henry Ford West Bloomfield Hospital, they will help patients heal.

Henry Ford West Bloomfield Hospital recently received a donation of 36 mosaic pieces from the Mosaic Artists of Michigan. Which created an interesting situation for Huntington Woods artist Joan Schwartz, a retired pediatric nurse at Royal Oak Beaumont Hospital. "It's an addiction for me," said Schwartz, a member of MAM. "I'm out and about and I see an acorn or a pushpin or a bottle cap and I think, this can be used for a piece. Every place I look, I see things that can be used."  The 12" x 12" artworks are part of the hospital’s Healing Arts Program, which includes visual art exhibits and concerts. In keeping with the nature-themed art throughout the hospital, 31 artists worked in four subjects: birds, flowers, hearts, and trees for the …

Henry Ford West Bloomfield Hospital Expansion Approved

Once completed next year, adding a second floor will add three new operating rooms and push the hospital's size to more than 1 million square feet.

A vertical expansion project that will add three new operating rooms to Henry Ford West Bloomfield Hospital was approved unanimously Tuesday night by the Planning Commission at Town Hall. The 9,600-square foot, one-story project, which was expected to begin construction in February pending approval, is actually less than 1 percent of the total size of the hospital, which will be pushed to more than 1 million square feet after completion, which is estimated at June 2013. The size of current operating rooms are too small for modern services, which require more electronic equipment and people, Marco Capicchioni of Henry Ford Health System said. The three new larger operating rooms, which will connect to each other internally, will allow more …
