Kohl's Cares Scholarship Program Accepting Nominations Now

Kohl’s is honoring more than 2,300 youth, ages six to 18, who have made a positive impact on their communities with more than $425,000 in scholarships and prizes; top winners receive $10,000 each.

The Kohl’s Department Stores (NYSE: KSS) Kohl’s Cares® Scholarship Program will award more than $425,000 in scholarships and prizes this year. Ranging from $50 Kohl’s gift cards to $10,000 scholarships, more than 2,300 young volunteers who have made a positive impact on their communities will be selected. Nominations for kids ages six to 18 will be accepted February 1 – March 15 at kohlskids.com.  To nominate volunteers ages six to 18 for a Kohl’s Cares scholarship, visit kohlskids.com. West Bloomfield Mailboxes Destroyed by Pumpkin Hurlers

West Bloomfield Township Police Department reports from Nov. 21-26 included 60 alarms, 23 crashes and four arrests. Among the highlights:  Police are investigating two separate incidents of mailboxes destruction by pumpkin, in addition to the theft of a pumpkin from a resident's porch Nov. 21. Lt. Tim Diamond said that at about 9:30 p.m. that night, West Bloomfield residents on the 5400 block of Fox Ridge heard a loud "bang" noise and went outside to find their mailbox damaged, with no one to be found there. A similar incident was reported to have taken place at about 11:30 p.m. on the 5200 block of West Bloomfield Lake. The same night, Diamond said, a surveillance system at a home on the 4600 block of Patrick captured footage of a woman …

Reported Vandalism at Former Eagle Elementary

West Bloomfield Township Police Department reports from Aug. 21-28 included 74 alarms, 20 crashes and 17 arrests. Among the highlights: Officers patrolling the site of Eagle Elementary School, which was closed by Farmington Public Schools in 2010, found a window broken on the west side of the building Aug. 22, according to Lt. Tim Diamond. A "small diameter projectile" caused the damage to the future home of the Muslim Cultural Center, a project of the Islamic Cultural Association of Franklin. There are no suspects. Two women were arrested in seperate incidents of retail fraud at Kohl's Department Store this week, according to Diamond. About $400-$500 worth of merchandise was taken during the most recent incident, Aug. 28 at about 2 p.m., …

Wallet Taken from Shopper's Cart; GPS Unit Stolen

West Bloomfield Township Police Department reports from Jan. 10-17 included 46 alarms, 41 crashes and 18 arrests. Among the highlights: An mother with an infant child had her Coach brand wallet taken from her cart as she shopped at Kohl's on Jan. 13, according to West Bloomfield Police Lt. Tim Diamond. "I know a lot of ladies will put their purses in their cart and then get distracted and walk away. That's the perfect opportunity for someone who has noticed that for whatever reason to take it," Diamond said. The 26-year-old Waterford resident had placed her wallet in her purse and walked away from her cart about 7:30 p.m. that day, Diamond said. The wallet contained about $20 cash and several gift cards to various area outlet stores. …
