The Eaglets looked poised to upset the defending district champs, but Lahser claimed a 55-52 victory on an improbable shot that's still resonating on social media.
Orchard Lake St. Mary's basketball playoff run ended in stunning fashion, 55-52, behind an 3-point shot from an unlikely source Friday. Yante Maten, Lahser's 6-8 center, dribbled past two Eaglet defenders down the sideline and turned away from a third to fire an off-balance 3-pointer with less than 10 seconds left. It careened off the glass and into the net, and the Lahser-heavy crowd erupted. They stormed the Andover High School gym in jubilation after the Eaglet's final shot fell short. Several of Lahser's fans captured the action and shared their thoughts about the amazing game on social media all night long. St. Mary's Senior Matt Linehan, who scored 14 points on 4-6 shooting from behind the arc, summed it up this way: "Congrats to the…

The Lakers played hard against the home team but couldn't derail the Mustangs, who added a district crown to an already-impressive season.
The West Bloomfield High School's girl's varsity basketball team was outmatched by the Marian High School Mustangs Friday night, officially closing their 2012-13 season. The Lady Barons prove they too can break records in the program's final season with merger pending; but fall in the district playoffs.
Earlier this month, we told you about the record-setting performance by the Lahser Lady Knights 78-38 rout of Hazel Park. Not to be outdone, the Andover Lady Barons had their own record-setting week to close the regular season of their own. The team set a combined 12 records during the season. Among them: Team Rachel Rea Shannon Wilson Andover won the initial 'Battle for Bloomfield' with a 59-48 win over cross-district rival Lahser at a special game at the O'rena on the Oakland University campus in January. The results the second time around weren't much different. Andover beneffited from a 13-0 spurt at the start of the second half and consistent shooting from its top two scorers to win 53-46 in the first round of the playoffs at Marian…

The Lakers enter the playoffs looking to snap a two-game losing skid, and will face the OAA Blue co-champs Monday.
The West Bloomfield High School boy's varsity basketball team may have received the toughest draw in the MHSAA districts starting Monday at Andover High School. The Lakers, 8-12 overall, will play the defending district champs from Lahser at 5 p.m. in what will likely be a hostile gym filled with either Lahser faithful, and future Bloomfield Hills Black Hawks. The district plans to merge Lahser and Andover next fall. The Knights clinched a share of the OAA title by thrashing Farmington Hills Harrison 73-48 on Tuesday, but fell to Seaholm 60-51 Thursday. Down nine points, early in the third quarter, the Maples went on a 14-2 run to take the lead, and didn't let it go in the fourth, miprepzone.com reported. They finished the regular season…
