U.S. Attorney Among Panelists at Tuesday Gun Violence Hearing

County Commissioner Marcia Gershenson, who represents West Bloomfield, is one of two officials spearheading the event.

U.S. Attorney Barbara McQuade will be among panelists at the third in a 5-part "Curbing Gun Violence" series, held April 9 during the Oakland County Board of Commissioners’ Public Services Committee meeting in Pontiac.  The meeting begins at 11:30 a.m., in Committee Room A, 1200 Telegraph Rd., and will be webcast live.  Commissioner Marcia Gershenson, a Democrat who represents West Bloomfield in the 13th District, and Public Services Committee chair Bill Dwyer (R-14th District), in a bi-partisan effort, developed the five-part informational series. Interested in Senior Issues? Represent West Bloomfield on Oakland County Council

Commissioner Marcia Gershenson is taking applications for a group that advises the county executive.

Oakland County Commissioner Marcia Gershenson, who represents West Bloomfield Township, seeks a resident interested in senior issues to serve on the Oakland County Senior Advisory Council.  The Oakland County Senior Advisory Council’s primary purpose is to advise the County Executive on the needs and services required by the elderly and to point out gaps in the elderly network. The Council meets on the third Monday of each month, and the appointee will serve a two-year term representing District 13. Oakland County Commissioners to Form Firearm Study Group

Announcement at West Bloomfield Police Department focuses on background checks and mental health.

Oakland County Commissioners Bill Dwyer (R-14th District) and Marcia Gershenson (D-13th District) met at the West Bloomfield Police Department Tuesday morning to announce the proposed formation of a study group that would study the gun registration process, especially as it relates to mental health.  "There's no easy solution here, but we think that there are a number of loopholes which must be addressed," said Dwyer, himself a retired law enforcement official and former Farmington Hills Chief of Police. It is too bad the study group doesn't have citizen representation-Sometimes non-professionals and/or ordinary people have ideas that could be implemented as well. I think that gathering information from those who elected these officials could help by giving a different perspective.   more ›

Gershenson Stresses Jobs, Economic Development in 13th District Race

The Bloomfield Township Democrat currently represents the 17th District on the Oakland County board.

Bloomfield Township resident Marcia Gershenson is running for re-election to the Oakland County Board of Commissioners primarily to continue work she has been doing over the past eight years.   The incumbent Democrat faces off in November against Republican Al Zaparackas, to represent the county's 13th District seat, which includes portions of Bloomfield Township, Farmington Hills and West Bloomfield. She currently represents District 17.  An advocate for the county's microloan program, Gershenson said supporting small businesses "is a key component to turning our economy around".
