Police: Mother Failed Breathalyzer After Taking Child to Hospital

West Bloomfield Township Police Department reports from Dec. 4-10 included 56 alarms, 57 crashes and 11 arrests. Among the highlights: Diamond said that a 48-year-old West Bloomfield mother was arrested after driving her three-year-old child to the hospital while under the influence of alcohol. The woman told Henry Ford West Bloomfield Hospital staff that she had brought her child to the hospital with stomach issues, however, upon arrival, staff suspected her to be under the influence, Diamond said. Reporting officers said that she failed field sobriety tests as well as a Breathalyzer test. She was arrested for driving while impaired and child endangerment, a one-year misdemeanor, Diamond added, and she awaits arraignment. A 72-year-old …

Police Blotter: Holiday Drunken Driving Arrests, Party Host Cited

West Bloomfield Township Police Department reports from Dec. 27-Jan. 2 included 69 alarms, 26 crashes and 21 arrests. Among the highlights: Additional officers targeting impaired drivers over the holiday season directly resulted in five arrests Dec. 23-Jan. 2, including three on Dec. 31, according to West Bloomfield Police Department Lt. West Bloomfield Police Step Up Drunken Driving Patrol Over Holidays

Federal safety grants pay for extra officers to be on the roads through New Year's.

Law enforcement officers in communities in 26 counties, including West Bloomfield in Oakland County, will put in some extra time targeting impaired drivers during the holiday season. The added enforcement is part of the holiday Drunk Driving. Over the Limit. Under Arrest. crackdown being funded with federal traffic safety grants administered by the Office of Highway Safety Planning. "We are deploying extra drunk driving detail through Jan. 2nd," West Bloomfield Police Lt. Tim Diamond said. "We started around Dec. 16th." Specifically, the grants will cover extra patrols tonight, Friday and Dec. 29, according to the OHSP.
