Oakland County Offers Discount Prescription Program to All Residents

A Coast2Coast Rx discount card can help consumers save money on prescription drugs and other services.

The Oakland County Board of Commissioners announced during a Thursday press conference that the county has adopted the Coast2Coast Rx discount prescription card as a health resource for residents. The free card is designed to help consumers save money on their prescriptions and other health care services, while contributing to the community. Each time the card is used to fill a prescription, $1.25 is generated for public programs. “We chose the Coast2Coast Rx program to be Oakland County’s discount prescription card because it will allow us to address both the health and financial concerns of individual residents and it is a fiscally-responsible way for the Board of Commissioners to provide a valuable public service for our constituents,” …

Low-Cost Pet Clinics Coming to Local Parks This Spring

Residents can get pet vaccinations and dog licenses at these clinics held in several Oakland County parks.

The Oakland Pet Adoption Center (OPAC) will be offering low-cost pet vaccination and license clinics in select county parks in April and May. All About Animals Rescue will be providing rabies, distemper and bordetella vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchipping for cats and dogs. In addition, OPAC will be selling dog licenses. “Vaccinations are essential in protecting pets from various diseases, some of which can be fatal,” said Joanie Toole, OPAC administrative supervisor. “Plus, a rabies vaccine is required in order to buy a dog license.” The clinics will be held on the following Saturdays: All vaccinations are $10 each; heartworm tests are $20; microchips are $20; and heartworm/flea preventative will be available - prices will …

County 'Curb Gun Violence' Hearing Broadcast Available Online

The next hearing, on the topic of mental illness, will be held April 23.

The broadcast of an April 9 Oakland County Board of Commissioners hearing focused on curbing gun violence is now available for viewing on the county's website. Commissioners welcomed top federal and state law officials to share their views at a Public Services Committee meeting. U.S. Attorney Among Panelists at Tuesday Gun Violence Hearing

County Commissioner Marcia Gershenson, who represents West Bloomfield, is one of two officials spearheading the event.

Oakland County Commissioner Marcia Gershenson, who represents West Bloomfield Township, seeks a resident interested in senior issues to serve on the Oakland County Senior Advisory Council.  The Oakland County Senior Advisory Council’s primary purpose is to advise the County Executive on the needs and services required by the elderly and to point out gaps in the elderly network. Oakland County Commissioners Host Panel Discussion on Gun Violence

The Feb. 26 event features law enforcement experts, who will talk about Universal Background Checks and other topics.

The Oakland County Board's Public Service committee will host a public hearing Feb. 26 featuring panelists speaking on the topic of gun violence. The event is the first in a three-part series of special public hearings spearheaded by County Commissioners Bill Dwyer (R-14th District) and Commissioner Marcia Gershenson (D-13th District), who represent Farmington and Farmington Hills.
