Teen Pulls Knife on Dad Following Her OWI Arrest

The West Bloomfield Police Department provided the following information. Arrests, where they are mentioned, do not indicate conviction.

  Officers arrested a 16-year-old girl who threatened her father with a kitchen knife during an argument in their home on March 11, according to West Bloomfield Police Department reports. The father called police after the girl fled the home in the 4000 block of Auburndale Court at 4:30 p.m., and officers found her roaming the subdivision, Lt. Tim Diamond said. They arrested her without incident. Officers believed the fight stemmed from the teen's arrest earlier that day for driving under the suspected influence of drugs in the area of Greer and Hiller roads, Diamond said. Charges in that matter are pending blood tests. Diamond said the girl was lodged at Oakland County's Children's Village, and that investigators with the department's …

Police: Man Caught Shoplifting Baby Formula in Cash Scheme; Property Damage Reported

  A Taylor man faces felony retail fraud charges for allegedly stealing dozens of baby formula containers from Kroger, police said. Toby Moskal, 28, was charged with one count of first-degree retail fraud in 48th District Court late last week, and remained in the Oakland County Jail Friday morning on $30,000 bond, jail records show. Officers with the West Bloomfield Township Police Department arrested him on Feb. 12 after he was caught by store security trying to leave with 38 cans of baby formula, Lt. Tim Diamond said. Reports allege that Moskal filled a garbage bag with the formula containers and covered that up with other merchandise in a shopping cart before he tried to leave. Birmingham Student Tweets Threat; Indecent Exposure in Ferndale

Area police departments provided the following reports. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. Birmingham Patch A Groves High School student was taken in custody Friday morning, after he was accused of sending out a threatening tweet on the Twitter social media website, said Groves principal Fred Procter Friday. In a note sent to parents, Procter said school officials were alerted overnight to "tweets of a threatening nature" generated by one of the school's underclassmen. The Beverly Hills Police Department was also alerted and able to "very quickly and appropriately" identify the source of the tweets and soon after took the student into custody, Procter said. Car Break-Ins on the Rise, West Bloomfield Police Say

West Bloomfield Township Police Department report highlights for April 10-17 include: Someone broke into a 2008 Chevy Silverado parked in a driveway on the 4300 block of Green Lake Road overnight April 12 and stole $2,600 worth of tools and electronic equipment, according to Lt. Tim Diamond. The West Bloomfield resident who owns the pickup claimed it had been locked, but the truck wasn't damaged during the break-in, Diamond said. Diamond said more thieves are likely to be operating at night as the weather gets warmer. "It's one of our biggest problems, and it's all over town," he said. Among the highlights: A 28-year-old Detroit resident was in Oakland County Jail on Monday, charged with breaking into his former girlfriend's home and assaulting two children, according to Police Lt. Tim Diamond. The incident occurred about 3 a.m. Friday, Diamond said, when Ahkendre Maurice Young began pounding on the door of the 39-year-old woman's home on the 6200 block of Eastbrooke as two associates of his waited in a car. Among the highlights: An alleged shoplifter at Kohl's remains at large after taking two pairs of shoes from the department store at 7200 Orchard Lake Rd., according to Lt. Tim Diamond. Meanwhile, police acknowledged a spike in shoplifting in the Gateway Plaza, which includes Kohl's and Whole Foods. Diamond said that at 6:14 p.m. Feb. 10, a loss prevention officer confronted man in his late 20s to early 30s in black pants and a white T-shirt whom she witnessed take two pairs of shoes at the doors of the store. Man Assaulted in Street Fight; $100 of Nickels Stolen

Among the highlights of West Bloomfield Police Department reports Jan. 31-Feb. 7: An 18-year-old West Bloomfield man was assaulted at the intersection of Willow and Lochaven roads on Feb. 6, Lt. Tim Diamond said.  The man had been driving south on Lochaven, just past Greer Road, at 3:39 p.m. when he approached a vehicle in front of him occupied by two men who were later arrested and cited in the brawl, Diamond said. The driver of the vehicle in front of the victim, a 20-year-old Orchard Lake Village man, would accelerate and then brake sharply for no apparent reason, Diamond said, before the victim's vehicle passed that of the suspects. Among the highlights: Police are investigating a report of an alleged shoplifter at CosmoProf who shoved an employee into metal shelving units before escaping into a waiting vehicle, West Bloomfield Police Lt. Tim Diamond said. The incident occurred about 11 a.m. Jan. 20 after the female employee watched the female suspect take one bottle of shampoo (valued at $19, according to Diamond) and two bottles of conditioner ($40) from a shelf and put them in her purse. The employee approached the suspect and removed the items from her purse, Diamond said, and the suspect shoved her into some nearby metal shelves before running away. …

Falling Tree Causes Tragic Accident in White Lake

Witnesses tell police falling tree was unavoidable.

Kerry Benjamin Schultz, 23, of West Bloomfield died Sunday after a falling tree hit his SUV causing him to lose control of the vehicle and go off the road. The accident occurred at Pontiac Lake Road near Margie in White Lake Saturday at 3 p.m. White Lake Police Chief Edward Harris said Schultz was traveling westbound down Pontiac Lake Road when a tree fell across the roadway and struck the roof of the SUV Schultz was driving. "He lost control of the vehicle and it went off the road into a ravine," Harris said. Police and fire responded and had to extricate Schultz from the vehicle. Menorah Stolen from Vacant Home; Vandals Damage House

West Bloomfield Township Police Department reports from Dec. 14-19 included 73 alarms, 15 crashes and 11 arrests. Among the highlights: A menorah was among two items stolen from a vacant home sometime Dec. 11-16, according to West Bloomfield Police Lt. Tim Diamond. The home on the 6900 block of Merrybrook North had been vacant for three-four months, Diamond said, but the homeowners still had valuables inside with intentions of selling the home sometime soon. The rear garage door, the door leading from the garage to the house and a locked bedroom door were pried open, Diamond said.
