UDPATED: North Farmington High School on Classroom Lockdown Thursday

Principal Joe Greene in a list serv message cite an 'indirect threat via social media' as the reason for the security measure.

UPDATE: A classroom lockdown at North Farmington High School was stepped down to a general lockdown, and access to the building will continue to be restricted throughout evening activities.  "North Farmington’s lockdown was in response to an indirect threat referencing our school via social media. We became aware of these messages shortly after 7:00 AM this morning," Principal Joe Greene wrote in a list serv email Thursday afternoon. "We immediately secured the building, entered a classroom lockdown, and conducted a rigorous investigation in conjunction with the Farmington Hills Police Department. All Farmington Schools to Lock Doors, Review Security Plans in January

The District cites parent concerns in the wake of a tragic school shooting in Newtown, CT.

Farmington Public Schools Supt. Susan Zurvalec has requested that main entrances at all district schools be locked through the end of the week.  Winter vacation starts for students at the end of the school day on Friday; students will return on Jan. 3.  The statement, emailed through the district's list serv, explained that school officials have received questions from parents regarding safety and security measures since a lone gunman forced his way into Sandy Hook elementary school and killed 20 children and six adults before turning the gun on himself.  School principals have communicated with parents via list serv about safety measures at their buildings.
