Holiday Shopping Weekend Off to a Big Start, Say Merchants

Businesses both corporate and small have an early start to the biggest shopping weekend of the year.

Deal hunting shoppers this past weekend were running on a full stomach thanks to Zoe’s House of Pancakes, which ran out of bread and orange juice during the busy weekend. “This has been a really good week for us. Wednesday was nuts and Friday was even busier,” Manager Frank Adamopoulos said. Business lingered in the morning and picked up right before lunchtime this weekend at Zoe’s.  “We ran out of bread on Saturday and Sunday, and our bread guy said “Man, I knew you were going to run out,” Adamopoulos said. Zoe’s was one of many area businesses which participated in a Small Business Saturday promotion from American Express, which offered a one-time $25 rebate to shoppers spending at least $25 at a small business after registering their …

Early-Bird Shoppers Flock to Troy for Black Friday Specials

Long lines and full parking lots at midnight Thursday were normal sights at Troy's Somerset Collection, Oakland Mall and other local businesses running doorbuster deals for Black Friday.

The promise of big savings on the best products lured thousands of shoppers to Troy stores late Thursday and early Friday morning as Black Friday shopping kicked off at midnight. The north parking lot outside Macy's at the Somerset Collection started to fill up Thursday night as the department store opened its doors to Black Friday shoppers at midnight. The official opening of the mall was moved to 8 a.m., while individual stores staggered their opening times from midnight at Macy's, and 4 a.m., 5 a.m. and 7 a.m. for many other stores. "We went to Great Lakes Crossing first, but we really wanted to shop here because they have all the top quality brand stores," Cash Zhao, who traveled from Mt. Kids Wish for 'iHoliday' in 2011

iPad and other Apple devices top kids' wish lists, survey finds, while shoppers can expect to find bundled gaming systems.

As you are making your holiday shopping list and checking it twice, be aware that what many kids really want are the top-selling Apple devices. The Apple iPad is the most desired consumer electronic among kids ages 6-12 this holiday season.
