One lucky loyal customer will receive a $50 gift card for entering a photo of their favorite Trader Joe's product.
The Bloomfield Township Trader Joe's launched on Jan. 15 with a lot of love from locals, and loyal customers that didn't mind travelling a little bit further to get their fix. We at Bloomfield-Bloomfield Hills Patch did our part by launching a photo contest to see just how many different products people were looking forward to getting at the new store at Telegraph and Maple roads. And readers from Bloomfield, Rochester, Northville — and many places in between — responded by posting photos of a wide variety of snacks, meal components and personal products all available at the new location. Of note: of the 40 entries, no product was repeated. As promised, we're providing a $50 gift card to one lucky reader and randomly selected Gina Agne, …

A large line of shoppers helped mark the much-anticipated opening in Bloomfield Plaza Tuesday morning.
For four months, Carrie Dunn watched and marvelled at how the vacant space at the north end of Bloomfield Plaza transformed into the latest Trader Joe's store. From dirt floors, exposed ceiling wires and plywood structures to painted drywall, custom artwork and tons of product, as captain, she said she couldn't believe it was time to open the doors Tuesday morning. But then she saw the line of people a dozen deep outside her doors. "It became real, and it was amazing because there were people lined up and ready. And that's who all this was for," Dunn said. Customers snaked their way through spacious aisles, picking up produce, frozen goods and trademark snacks throughout the opening morning. Though it may take shoppers a bit of time to get…

The much-anticipated opening in Bloomfield Plaza is just a week away.
The countdown for the opening of the new Trader Joe's in Bloomfield Township is under way. The doors to the fully-refurbished store inside part of the former Kroger location in Bloomfield Plaza open Tuesday, Jan. 15 at 8 a.m. A spokesperson with the California-based company promised no major gimmicks or frills with the grand opening. But customers will have access to all the products and sales values they've experienced at the Farmington Hills location, which will close this month, officials said in a written statement. Staff and local officials will officially open the doors with ceremonial "lei cutting" to keep with the company's tropical theme at 8 a.m. Tuesday. The company initially planned to open last month, but decided to keep the …

The exterior sign is up and the interior is coming together at the market's new locale at Telegraph and Maple.
In September, we wrote about how Trader Joe's move from Farmington Hills to Bloomfied Township understandably put off some current patrons. Conversely, Bloomfield-area residents and business owners are more enthused, particularly since the construction work is starting to show visible results.k Carpenters and electrical contractors are hard at work at the new location on the west side of Telegraph between the Starbucks and SavOn Drugs in Bloomfield Plaza. Though store officials have yet to announce an official open date, they did target next month "We've got some reasons to be optimistic," said Bill Wahl, owner of the nearby Relax the Back store, as he noted the changes to the Maple Theater nearby, and the opening of the Bagger Dave's …

More than 70 varieties of peanuts are added to a massive Sunland Inc. recall for possible salmonella contamination. Here's the latest.
A food recall that began with a contaminated batch of peanut butter sold at Trader Joe's has now expanded to include raw and roasted in-shell and shelled peanuts, Sunland Inc. announced Friday in a news release posted on the Food and Drug Administration website. The nuts were processed in the Sunland Peanut Processing Plant in Portales, N.M. The same plant processed the two Trader Joe's Valencia Peanut Butter varieties linked to an outbreak of salmonella bradeney, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The potential salmonella contamination could cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, the elderly or others with compromised immune systems. Healthy persons who get infected with salmonella …

Although the company's corporate office could not confirm the move, customers are being told that the store will relocate to Maple and Telegraph in Bloomfield Township.
Trader Joe's customers in Farmington Hills have been told they'll soon have to travel a little farther for their favorite grocery items. While the company's corporate headquarters could not confirm the move, customers are being told the store is relocating to Maple and Telegraph in Bloomfield Township, sometime in December. Trader Joe's is located in a shopping center at the 14 Mile/Orchard Lake/Northwestern triangle; the store is near two major shopping centers, Hunters Square on the Farmington Hills side of 14 Mile and Gateway Center on the West Bloomfield Township side. A roundabout will be installed in that area within the next few years, Farmington Hills city officials say. Tanya Nordhaus of Farmington Hills has been shopping at …
