Visions for Vacancies: What Should Happen to the Cadillac Dealership?

You don't need to be an urban planner to know what West Bloomfield needs from this vacancy. Talk about it on Patch.

Closures of Audette Cadillac dealerships in 2009 left West Bloomfield with a large hole at 7100 Orchard Lake Rd. On Monday, the Township Board of Trustees voted to take no motion on an agenda item to consider a request from developers to allow for a health club on the first floor of the building. (Stay tuned for the full story!)  Patch wants to know: What's your vision for this building? You don't need to be a commercial developer or urban planner — or have money to invest in a business project — to have the next great idea. We want to hear about it.

Put any business there that will bring business to West Bloomfield. That ordinance should not apply seeing how there used to be an auto dealership in that place, not very downtowny. About 1/2 mile away is a Power House Gym. What kind of restrictions are on that property? Our area is in no position to reject any real vendor, especially knowing that Tim Horton's will be the anchor for the new …   more ›

POLL: What's Your Vision for this Vacancy?

You don't need to be an urban planner to know what West Bloomfield needs from this vacancy. Talk about it on Patch.

West Bloomfield's restaurant choices became a little more slim this year after D'Pauli's Restaurant moved out, creating a new vacancy in the Sugar Tree Square just north of Maple Road on Orchard Lake Road. The empty storefront, next to Outback Steakhouse, is zoned in the community business district.

Visions for Vacancies: What Should Happen to the Old Eaton Nursery?

You don't need to be an urban planner to know what West Bloomfield needs from this vacancy. Talk about it on Patch.

Unlike the trees which used to grow there, nothing has come of the former Eaton Nursery site since business packed up and left Maple Road in between Farmington Road and Daly Road in West Bloomfield. Patch wants to know: What's your vision for this building? According to the township, the land, on about five acres for $650,000, is recommended for child care centers, nursing and convalescent homes, senior housing, or senior assisted living. It has "excellent" visibility with an estimated 28,000 vehicles driving by 264 feet of frontage every day. You don't need to be a commercial developer or urban planner — or have money to invest in a business project — to have the next great idea. We want to hear about it.

POLL: What's Your Vision for this Vacancy?

You don't need to be an urban planner to know what West Bloomfield needs from this vacancy. Talk about it on Patch.

As the Mattress King store on the west side of Orchard Lake Road, just south of Maple Road, moved out recently, a new vacancy can now be found at one of West Bloomfield's most visible intersections. The empty storefront, next to Watch Experts and Detroit Bagel, is zoned in the general business district.

Visions for Vacancies: What Should Happen to the Old Bogart's Site?

You don't need to be an urban planner to know what West Bloomfield needs from this vacancy. Talk about it on Patch.

It used to be used as Bogart's restaurant. Before that, it was used as EG Nick's. Planners said it could be easily used as a small scale retail business location, professional medical offices, or a restaurant. Patch wants to know: What's your vision for this building? The space at 6066 Maple Rd., just east of Farmington Road, has been cleared up earlier this year. However, the space next to CVS seems a bit "off" without something being there.

What Would You Do ... With Available Land in Keego Harbor?

You don't need to be an urban planner to know what West Bloomfield needs from this vacancy. Talk about it on Patch.

More than one half of an acre sits bare in the heart of Keego Harbor, waiting for the right development proposal.  City planner Brian Oppmann said that the city-owned property, on 0.68 acres at the northeast corner of Cass Lake Road and Orchard Lake Road, is zoned for almost any commercial use. What is your dream proposal? A school, a gym, or a restaurant? How about your craziest proposal? A school which is used as a concert hall at night? A jungle gym? An open-air fast food restaurant? You don't need to be a commercial developer or urban planner — or have money to invest in a business project — to have the next great idea. We want to hear about it.

Is there a need for child care in Keego? I noticed that the only child care currently offered in the area is the elementary school latch key program. But an open air restaurant would be neat. A coffee place with outdoor seating would be cool, too.   more ›

Visions for Vacancies: What Should Happen to Noor Market & Bakery?

You don't need to be an urban planner to know what West Bloomfield needs from this vacancy. Talk about it on Patch.

Mike and Nadia Kaskorkis used to dish up delicious Middle Eastern takeout at this spot in Sugar Tree Square, but fans of their famous stuffed grape leaves, chicken shwarma, and kebabs have had to turn elsewhere since Noor Market & Bakery closed down at 6263 Orchard Lake Rd.  The location on 3,000 square feet could be of great use for a number of uses, according to GH Real Estate Advisors, so Patch wants to know: What's your vision for this building? You don't need to be a commercial developer or urban planner — or have money to invest in a business project — to have the next great idea. We want to hear about it.

Visions for Vacancies: What Should Go Here?

You don't need to be an urban planner to know what West Bloomfield needs from this vacancy. Talk about it on Patch.

As a new Witbeck home appliance store moved to a new location at the Shops of Old Orchard, next to Plum Market, it left a vacancy on Northwestern Highway that was previously filled for as long as the author can remember. Patch wants to know: What's your vision for this building? Last month, the Zoning Board of Appeals denied a request from Goodwill Industries of Greater Detroit which would have granted the nonprofit permission to move in.  You don't need to be a commercial developer or urban planner — or have money to invest in a business project — to have the next great idea. We want to hear about it.
