West Bloomfield Mailboxes Destroyed by Pumpkin Hurlers

West Bloomfield Township Police Department reports from Nov. 21-26 included 60 alarms, 23 crashes and four arrests. Among the highlights:  Police are investigating two separate incidents of mailboxes destruction by pumpkin, in addition to the theft of a pumpkin from a resident's porch Nov. 21. Lt. Tim Diamond said that at about 9:30 p.m. that night, West Bloomfield residents on the 5400 block of Fox Ridge heard a loud "bang" noise and went outside to find their mailbox damaged, with no one to be found there. A similar incident was reported to have taken place at about 11:30 p.m. on the 5200 block of West Bloomfield Lake. The same night, Diamond said, a surveillance system at a home on the 4600 block of Patrick captured footage of a woman …

Police: Husband of Shoplifter Punches Officer

West Bloomfield Township Police Department reports from Aug. 7-13 included 65 alarms, 20 crashes and 11 arrests. Among the highlights: A 62-year-old, West Bloomfield man assaulted a loss prevention officer at Whole Foods Market Aug. 7 and sped away through the parking lot of Gateway Plaza after his wife was seen shoplifting grocery items, according to a report. The couple were were cited at their home on Tamerlane Drive on the day of the incident, which took place around 2:15 p.m., Lt. Mike Turner said. The 66-year-old woman was seen on camera placing about $50 worth of produce in her purse before attempting to leave the store without paying, Turner continued. Police: Man Stole from Jewish Community Center Raffle

A man was arrested Monday after police say he was caught on camera stealing cash from a table for a raffle set up at the Jewish Community Center. According to West Bloomfield Police Lt. Tim Diamond, the man, 40, from Southfield, denied the allegations from the incident — that he took $50 as the JCC employee working at the table was distracted. Diamond continued that the man had been there to use the fitness center when he struck up a conversation with the employee and left soon after the theft allegedly took place. When the man came back to the fitness center, he was recognized, and police were called, Diamond said. The man was released pending a warrant on charges of larceny. Arrest at Whole Foods; Break-in Reported at Marshbank

West Bloomfield Township Police Department reports from Feb. 20-27 included 53 alarms, 33 crashes and 20 arrests. Among the highlights: Adam Lankin, 35, and Brian Murphy, 28, were charged with assault with a deadly or dangerous weapon and malicious destruction of property, respectively, on Feb. 20 after an incident in the 7900 block of Oakley Park Drive. Lt. Tim Diamond said that the men, working as repo men to pick up a car at that address, turned violent when the vehicle's owner emerged from the home that morning and attempted to drive away the vehicle targeted for repossession. Murphy and Lankin reportedly tried to trap the women in, Diamond said, and Murphy is reported to have jumped on the vehicle's hood. As the car drove off, Lankin …

With so many choices in West Bloomfield, where do you shop? That's what we asked some shoppers last week. With four grocery stores in a two-mile stretch located close to or on Orchard Lake Road, customers told us why they choose to frequent one or more of four stores: Hiller's, Busch's, Whole Foods and Plum Market. "My family and I like the fact that we can do most of our shopping all in the same general area," said Howard Rosenberg, a West Bloomfield resident since 1984. "They (Hiller's Market) have different fresh fish markets, different meats, and different produce. We do most of our shopping there.
