YouTube clip offers a local take on the viral video smash.
The 2012 dance-pop smash hit single "Gangnam Style" and the icon Santa Claus may be two of your average neighborhood young child's favorite things this year. Another perfect match, it seems, is Santa Claus at a West Bloomfield Fire Department station. Saint Nick seems to blend in particularly well at this pancake breakfast, a clip from which was thankfully uploaded to YouTube this week by Steve Wiseman. West Bloomfield Democrat spoke out against right-to-work and anti-abortion legislation.
State Rep. Lisa Brown's latest speech against new anti-abortion legislation may not have reached national news headlines, but it will likely not be forgotten by her former colleagues in the Michigan House of Representatives. Brown spoke out from the House floor in a video uploaded to YouTube Dec. 12 against proposed regulatory measures including requiring a health professional to screen patients to ensure they aren't being forced to end pregnancies. Brown (D-39th District) was barred from speaking on the floor in June after she claimed an abortion bill forced contradictory religious beliefs upon her and others, referencing her own vagina at the end of her speech. Have you ever wondered where the iconic red turf football field came from?
Orchard Lake St. Mary's Preparatory made headlines this year when it announced plans to install a red turf football field, but only this week did the Georgia-based manufacturer Sporturf show us what it looked like in preparation. The school installed a red Sporturf field composed of plastic, sand and rubber on top of a drainable rock base to replace the grass field which had stood for 51 years. Headmaster James Glowacki said at a groundbreaking ceremony in June that St. Mary's is one of only three campuses nationwide with such a football-playing surface. In honor of Detroit being named the best sports city in American by the Sporting News voters, we'd like to know what your favorite Detroit sports moment is... and we'd also like to see it!
The votes came in and Detroit came out on top. On Friday, Detroit was named the best sports town in American by voters on the Sporting News. See the full results here. Was there ever a question?! Well, for us Detroiters, of course there wasn't. We've had championships from the Tigers, Pistons and the Red Wings, as well as a very memorable 0-16 season by our own Detroit Lions. But even when we're not winning championships, we've had several memorable playoff runs from three of our four major sports (sorry Lions -- but maybe this is your year?).
