Wake Up and Smell the Coffee at Keego Bosko's

Reopening on Wednesday morning, this former favorite remains a family business.

What was once known as the "hub of Keego Harbor" is back with a facelift and a new menu to satisfy breakfast and lunch diners alike. Bosko's Coffee and Kitchen is scheduled to open Wednesday morning at 2850 Orchard Lake Rd., just north of Cass Lake Road. Brothers Dave and John Jovanovich said they had been renovating the restaurant since April 2012 after the previous Dunkin' Donuts shop vacated about two years ago. Dave Jovanovich, a West Bloomfield resident, said that the original Bosko's was opened in 1982 by his father, Bosko Jovanovich. Together with his family, including sister and mother, Dave said that the small coffee shop worked to give the community an area to congregate. A new menu featuring some familiar names as well as some …

Merry Christmas, Keego: What Are Kids Asking For This Year?

Optimist Club of Keego Harbor hosts Sunday lunch with Santa at Santia Hall.

The Optimist Club of Keego Harbor hosted an estimated 100 children for Sunday lunch at Santia Hall; giving away gifts, painting faces, and of course, a visit from Santa Claus. While families socialized and enjoyed good company, West Bloomfield Patch wanted to know: what are kids asking for from Santa this year? The children of Keego Harbor graciously filled us in. Merry Christmas, Keego! If you had your picture taken with Santa Claus, click the Upload Photos and Videos button to share it with Patch readers.

Ho! Ho! Ho! Merry Christmas, Keego!

Santa Claus paid a special visit to several hundred local children in Keego Harbor.

"Santa Claus is Coming to Town" has been a popular refrain in Keego Harbor this week in anticipation of the big guy's scheduled to town. It was no surprise, then, that visitors to the annual tree lighting event were in the midst of song when Santa Claus arrived to Keego. Several hundred children packed in the Keego DPW building Friday night to tell Santa what they wanted for the holiday, partake in karaoke machine carols and have fun thanks to area volunteers and sponsors.

John Reed, Julie Beaty to Run for West Bloomfield School Board

The filing deadline for one position on the West Bloomfield School Board and other local races was Tuesday.

Earlier this week, we told you about the filing deadline for seats in the Greater West Bloomfield area in the Nov. 6 general election. Though we already knew who will be on the ballot for various state and regional elections following the Aug. 7 primary election, these races weren't official until now. West Bloomfield School District Residents district-wide will be asked to vote for one new member on the West Bloomfield School Board. President Bruce Tobin, whose fifth term ends Dec. 31, withdrew from the ballot after paying a $100 fee to bypass the number of petitions required to gain entry. Tobin had filed to run Jul. 10 and withdrew on Tuesday. The West Bloomfield residents who will be running for Tobin's spot on the board for one six-…

I have just discovered this site, specifically because i know absolutely nothing about either candidate. These responses has been very revealing and because of them this household will be voting for John Reed. Now, if I could find anything about WB Library Board candidates I would be very happy. Thanks.   more ›

Memorial Day Parade Draws Community to Keego

Did you go? Upload your photos from the event to Patch!

In what organizers referred to as one of the largest Memorial Day parades they had been involved with, Greater West Bloomfield area residents marched from Orchard Lake to Keego Harbor to honor members of the American military on Monday. The parade had been in question in recent months over a disagreement between Sylvan Lake city officials and Keego Harbor officials regarding the level of parade involvement between the two governments. Mayor Rob Kalman said that the parade itself was never in doubt and after several hundred turned out along eastbound Orchard Lake Road — the parade route began at Abbott Middle School, ran northbound along Cass Lake Road and ended at Keego Harbor City Hall — it might be tough to disagree. "There’s a core …

Old Census Shows Glimpse of Keego Harbor in 1940

1940 census released April 2 is a treasure trove for family sleuths.

New Census records show that a 36-year-old married woman named May Morrison raised three children while living in Keego Harbor in 1940. She never attended college, only going as far as eighth grade after being born in Alabama. A machine operator working in automobile body manufacturing, Morrison worked 40-hour weeks making $700 annually to support her three teenage children. Lauded as a gold mine for researchers and the public, the 1940 Census was released online April 2. Anyone can look up the basics of everyday life in Keego, before it became a city in 1955. Click here to scan the Census sheets. Morrison's record continues that her 17-year-old daughter Marie, her 15-year-old son Ross, and her 13-year-old daughter Francis lived together …

Show Sweetheart Your Love with Ultra-Romantic Desserts

Keego Harbor native Michelle White recommends a cherry-based topping for a simple pound cake among desserts featured.

With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, Cupid would like to see you whip up something sweet for your loved ones. Sure, you can grab a brownie mix at the grocery store (he’ll give you a few points for that), but wouldn’t it be nice to try something a little more daring?  VERY CHERRY: When Michelle White was a little girl growing up on Cass Lake in Keego Harbor, she enjoyed nothing but fresh vegetables and fruits. She literally grew her passion for healthy foods into a fulltime business, moving to northern Michigan’s cherry country. These days, White produces Michelle’s Miracle cherry concentrate (also available in pill form). The cherry concoction brims with vitamins that help counter joint pain, sleep issues and more. For Valentine’s…
