The West Bloomfield High School girls varsity basketball team beat Rochester by 17 to win the Rochester Holiday Classic for the second straight season.
West Bloomfield High School girls basketball head coach Steve Larkin knows that star guard Sydni Davis can't beat other teams with her statistics alone. The Lakers varsity girls basketball team's 44-27 victory over Rochester Friday in the Rochester Holiday Classic was a testament to role players stepping up in the box score, according to a report in MI Prep Zone. Davis led the Lakers with 14 points, seven rebounds, six assists, and six steals, but stepping up as well were Ashley Zeigler with 10 points and Jenny Cabaravdic, who added eight points and led the team with nine rebounds. Kheri Motley and Melissa Christenson combined for 16 rebounds for the Lakers (4-2). Prior to the season, Larkin touted his starting five. “We have pretty good …

The Lakers girls team toppled Walled Lake Northern on the strength of guard Sydni Davis' 32 points.
West Bloomfield High School girls basketball coach Steve Larkin came into this season expecting to see a cohesive, if small, group of starters on the varsity team. That cohesive group combined to force 22 turnovers Wednesday as the Lakers beat Walled Lake Northern, 60-41, led by junior guard Sydni Davis, MI Prep Zone reported. The Lakers advanced to the finals of the Rochester Holiday Classic girls basketball tournament for the second straight year with the win. The team moves on to play at 6 p.m. Friday against the tournament-host Falcons, which beat Mt. Clemens on Wednesday. Ashley Ziegler scored 10 points and Melissa Christenson contributed six points and 11 rebounds for West Bloomfield (3-2). Read more: Run and Gun: West Bloomfield …

Coach hopes trio of experienced guards and up tempo offense can help keep Lakers competitive in tough Oakland Activities Association Red division.
It won’t be an easy road to success for the West Bloomfield High School girls basketball team this season. After an 11-3 overall, second-place finish in the Oakland Activities Association White division last year, the Lakers (1-0) were bumped up to the Red division in the offseason. “Every night is going to be tough,” West Bloomfield head coach Stephen Larkin said. The Red features three teams — Clarkston, Avondale and Southfield Lathrup — that made it to regionals last year. Lathrup was undefeated in the OAA Red and Avondale moved up with the Lakers after it went undefeated in the White. Stoney Creek and Troy Athens also bring back some top talent. “You can’t afford to have a bad night against any of them,” Larkin said. “It’s very …
