Head coach calls results the 'best finish in at least 15 years' for the Lakers.
While football is sure to be top-of-mind for many on Monday, don't forget the successful show by the West Bloomfield High School swimming and diving teams this past Saturday. In an email to parents and student-athletes, head coach Bob Crosby said that the 12th-place finish (82 points) at the Oakland County Championship meet at Lake Orion High School marked the boys team's "best finish in at least 15 years." Congratulations to the Lakers' John Yurich, who made cuts for the state finals in two events. The team also had state cuts in the 200-yard freestyle relay (Yurich, Nick Simon, Pete Forhan, and Andrew Jacob), and the 400-yard freestyle relay (Yurich, Forhan, Jacob, and Tyler Edwards). Bloomfield Hills Brother Rice High School won the …

The Phoenix won a close Oakland Activities Association league meet at West Bloomfield Friday night over second-place Adams.
Senior Eric Gensheimer and sophomore Grant Borregard helped carry the Farmington-Harrison boys swimming and diving to a victory in the Oakland Activities Association White Division championship meet Friday. The Phoenix finished with 465 points to clinch the division championship at West Bloomfield and complete a perfect season after a second place finish last year. Gensheimer took home the title of "Senior of the Meet" with spectacular first-place finishes in the 100 yard freestyle, 50 yard freestyle, and 400 yard freestyle relay. Gensheimer won last season's division race in the 50 free, but he went into the race this year after finishing second in the preliminary round Wednesday to the Lakers' junior Andrew Jacob. First-year head coach …

The Lakers boys swimming and diving team will host the Oakland Activities Association White division championship meet, kicking off Wednesday.
It's been a remarkable year for the West Bloomfield High School boys swimming and diving team, but it isn't over. The Lakers will host the Oakland Activities Association White Division meet, beginning with the preliminary round on Wednesday, in an attempt to complete a record turnaround with a division title. Until this season, there were only two Lakers boys swimming and diving teams which improved its record by more than four wins since the pool opened in 1974. After finishing 2-5-1 in the 2010-11 season, the Lakers now stand at 7-2. Even so, head coach Bob Crosby's Lakers have their work cut out for them. Farmington/Harrison heads into the meet as the favorites to win after having gone through the dual-meet season without a loss, …

West Bloomfield High School senior parent Karen Raymond helps lead a core group of parents involved with the boys varsity swimming and diving team.
In speaking with West Bloomfield High School swimming and diving team parent Karen Raymond, you might think she's looking at a calendar. "We host a team breakfast every Saturday after practice at a different parent's house each week," she said as she watched the Lakers top Hazel Park for the first win of the season Dec. 13. "Before the league meets in February, we have a parent who hosts a spaghetti dinner. (Team parents) also do a master's meet fundraiser and then the banquet at the end of the year," said Raymond, parent of senior team captain Walter Raymond. "Yeah, we do a lot. Did I miss anything?" she added with a laugh. It's all part of feeling like a member of the team for Raymond, whose son is her only child. Walter also plays …

West Bloomfield High School student-athletes will compete in the Division 1 meet at Eastern Michigan University this weekend.
The state finals are a time for athletes to show their best. It shouldn’t be too difficult for a West Bloomfield High School varsity girls swim team that have has doing that all season. “I don’t think anything could deter from the season the team had as a whole,” Lakers head coach Bob Crosby said. “It was a very successful season for us.” Crosby’s team will compete in four individual events and all three relays at the Division 1 state finals this weekend at Eastern Michigan University. West Bloomfield will also have two divers competing at the finals. “We improved in just about every category,” Crosby said. “To qualify all three relays is something we’ve only done once before for the girls team. I’m proud of that accomplishment.” Crosby…
