West Bloomfield Football Shakes Off Emotions, Wins Homecoming Game

The Lakers football team convincingly won its Homecoming game over Pontiac after assault incident last week.

After an ugly incident last week which resulted in one player being taken from the playing field in handcuffs, the West Bloomfield High School football team jumped out to an early lead against Pontiac at Homecoming Friday night and didn't look back. The 31-14 win capped an "emotional" period for the team and its coaching staff, the latter of which lost its defensive coordinator over an apparent disagreement with head coach Ron Bellamy stemming from an alleged assault and battery of a Stoney Creek assistant coach by a Lakers football player. "In my football career of playing and coaching, I’ve never been through anything as emotional as this week," Bellamy said. "We didn’t practice Monday. We just had a team meeting. I told my boys how I …

I can't believe you parents are trying to justify the actions of a 16 yrs old boy knocking a 67 year old man unconcious. I don't care what happen in the stands. There is never an excuse for someone to put there hands on another. If this is what your teaching your children get the bail money ready.   more ›

West Bloomfield Defense Can't Be Solved in Season-Opening Win

Lakers varsity football season off on the right path after home win against Jackson.

The score: West Bloomfield 42, Jackson 7 The star: The Lakers defense, led by sophomore lineman Eddy Wilson and senior defensive backs Chance Monarch and Norm Burns, forced four fumbles and one interception against an experienced Vikings offense.  The turning point: The Lakers came out of halftime with the proverbial wind to their back after a 75-yard touchdown run on the first play from scrimmage by speedy sophomore Michael King to go up 28-7. A forced fumble on the ensuing Jackson drive by Wilson seemed to knock the wind from the Vikings for good. The story: The Lakers bounced back after an opening kickoff touchdown run by Jackson senior Caleb Moss to not allow another point. Freshman quarterback Trishton Jackson played the role of "game…
