You might not think that a nutritionist has to watch her weight, but in reality it’s a daily challenge. Although I am thin (under 110 pounds) I have to work like a hawk to stay fit and to keep my weight where it is. I love chocolate and crusty bread, but at 5-feet 1 ½-inches I am a metabolically challenged woman.

I have a family history of diabetes, high cholesterol, osteoporosis and macular degeneration, so maintaining a healthy lifestyle and good nutrition is a high priority for me. I do not love exercise, but I am committed to staying fit and that means active movement – 30 to 60 minutes a day – even if it’s not done in one big session, but might instead be spread out throughout the day in shorter intervals. During hectic weeks, I look for opportunities throughout my busy schedule: an early morning walk, lunges in the hall if a client is delayed, or doing sit-ups when TV commercials flood the screen.

I am quick at healthy meal preparation, since I do not like spending hours in the kitchen. I’m married and a mother of two sons. I’ve survived years of carpooling and living with teenagers. I practice what I teach and live by the same advice I give my clients.

For the past 20 years, I have been counseling and coaching Metro Detroiters to help them reach their nutritional potential. No two clients of mine are the same – so their individualized eating plans shouldn’t be developed with a cookie-cutter model. I’m an expert in nutrition and I try creative, flexible solutions that will work with each person’s medical and nutritional needs.
