Bridging the Medical & Educational Divide for Students with Disabilities

Marcie Lipsitt, B.A. is one of 15 speakers who will be presenting at the conference.   Her topic is "Bridging the Medical & Educational Divide for Students with Disabilities."

The Medical & Educational divide must be bridged for children with special needs.  Marcie Lipsitt will educate the audience about the current state of special education in Michigan and at the Federal level.  She will discuss the potentially adverse impact of the DSM-V on students with an Autism Spectrum Disorder and Mood Disorders, and how the needs of students with AD/HD are in Michigan public schools.  Ms Lipsitt will leave the audience with a strong message and call to action, along with information about how to become a part of the solution for rebuilding measurable and accountable outcomes for students with disabilities.

Bio:  Marcie Lipsitt earned her BA in English at the University of Michigan and has since been working as an educational advocate and activist representing children primarily with disabilities and their parents in disputes with public school districts.  Marcie Lipsitt is not an attorney, nor does she offer legal advice. Instead her practice focuses on the rights of students with disabilities pursuant to the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA 2004), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973.  She is a passionate advocate, Parent Leader for the National Center for Learning Disabilities, Member of the Council of Parent Attorneys and Advocates ("COPAA"), and Co-founder of the Michigan Alliance for Special Education.

Social Workers will earn 5 CEU's.
