Charach Gallery in West Bloomfield to Host Exhibition of Collaborative Art

The Janice Charach Gallery in West Bloomfield will next month celebrate the opening of ELS 4 GATS: "Out With the New, In With the Old", a year-long collaboration featuring the works of Tony Roko and Bowen Kline.

According to a press release, the exhibition will open on August 22 with a private reception and unveiling, and will run through mid-October. Self-taught artists Roko and Bowen began their cooperative efforts in 2012.

Detroit resident Roko was recently commissioned to paint an official Lady GaGa portrait; his clients also include Coca-Cola, Vitamin Water, Vibe Magazine, Ford Motor Company and the Dance Theater of Harlem. His works are on display at the State Capitol Building, the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History, the Motown Museum as well as various galleries around the country.

Born and raised in Southfield, Kline has many pieces hanging in the region's most prestigious private collections. He recently garnered the attention and praise of media outlets, as a rising star on the Detroit scene.

Housed inside the Jewish Community Center, the gallery will also commemorate the centennial of the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) with a series titled "World Without Hate" and "The Last Kaddish", a poignant and haunting image of one of the countless horrors of the Holocaust.

The Jewish Community Center is located at 6600 W. Maple. For more information, visit jccdet.org.
