Walled Lake Schools Staffers Help Raise $70,000 to Fight Childhood Cancer

Eight staff members sport shaved heads for the April 20 Lakes Area fundraiser for St. Baldrick's Foundation.

The Walled Lake Consolidated School District recently partnered with the St. Baldrick’s Foundation to raise money for childhood cancer research, during the annual Lakes Area Head Shaving event April 20 at the Walled Lake Fire House.

This year’s event raised over $70,000 for the foundation, and 197 participants had their heads shaved for the cause.

Walled Lake students, staff, and families were all active in the fundraising process. Eight Walled Lake Schools formed donations teams, including: Mary Helen Guest Elementary, Walled Lake Elementary, Loon Lake Elementary, Glengary Elementary, Walnut Creek Middle School, Geisler Middle School, Sarah Banks Middle School, and Walled Lake Western High School.

Overall, 86 members of the Walled Lake Schools’ community (students, staff, and families) participated in the event and eight staff members volunteered to have their heads shaved at the event.

The District has raised over $34,000 for St. Baldrick’s and that number will continue to grow due to ongoing fundraising efforts at several buildings including Mary Helen Guest Elementary and Sarah Banks Middle School. All donation pages will remain open through the rest of 2013 for those who still wish to donate.
