What's That Cracking Noise? Township Warns about Frost Breaks

West Bloomfield residents are experiencing frost breaks, which occur during extremely cold weather.

Are you hearing cracking sounds inside your home?

West Bloomfield Township officials on Tuesday shared an advisory about frost breaks or frosts heaves, which may be making your house a little more noisy than usual.

According to the township website, frost breaks or heaves happen during very cold weather and "are caused by the freezing of moist soil, where the ground 'cracks' on the surface and causes an audible noise." From inside, it may sound like the house is "being pelted with snowballs or ice chunks".
