‘DWTS’ and ‘Idol’ Results: Michiganders in Finales of Both Reality Shows

Bloomfield Hills native Charlie White was voted off “Dancing with the Stars” last week, a shock and disappointment to fans backing both members of Michigan’s 2014 Sochi Olympics gold medal ice dancing team for the finals.

Meryl Davis, who grew up in West Bloomfield, did make it to the finals, and the Olympic ice dancing team will recreate some of the magic of Sochi on the ballroom floor in their first-ever dance together on DWTS, ABC said on the reality talent competition show’s web site.

The DWTS finale will be held over two consecutive nights, Monday and Tuesday. The two-hour results show, which airs at 8 p.m. Tuesday, conflicts with another must-see finale, “American Idol,” also airing at 8 p.m. on the FOX network.

Jena Irene Asciutto, 17, of Farmington Hills hopes to outsing Asheville, N. C. rocker Caleb Johnson to be the 13th champion of the series, which concludes in a two-hour program from 8 to 10 p.m. Wednesday. The winner will release a winner’s single online, a full album later in the year and headline this summer’s “American Idol” concert tour.

Bringing Back the Argentine Tango

Davis will reprise with professional dance partner, Maks Chmerkovskiy her Argentine Tango, the dance she performed during the week of The Switch-Up, when the dancers were paired with new partners.

Davis switched brothers, dancing with Val Chmerkovskiy in what head judge Len Goodman called “the dance of the night.”

In the second dance, Davis and regular partner Maks Chmerkovskiy will dance a “supersized Freestyle dances complete with special effects and lots of surprises,” the network said.

If Davis and Chmerkovskiy survive, they’ll be back to Tuesday to perform a freestyle routine chosen by fans on Twitter.

In addition to dancing with Davis, White and his partner Sharna Burgess will be part of an ensemble dance by all 12 couples this season that opened the season.

“Dancing with the Stars” can be seen locally on WXYZ, Channel 7.

Jena Irene will Join Paramore on Stage

Jena Irene Asciutto performed Radiohead’s “Crush” in the semi-final last week to win a spot in the two-night finale. Tuesday’s one-hour show airs at 8 p.m., and the Wednesday one-hour show airs from 8-10:06 p.m., according to the show’s web site.

As part of the finale, Asciutto will get to perform with one of her favorite bands, Paramore, as finalists get to join some of the music industry’s biggest names on stage, according to the show’s web site. Some of the best performances of the season are also planned for the final night of Idol’s 13th season.

If she wins the “Idol” title Wednesday, Asciutto said “We Are One” would be the title of her first single. The song was co-written by Asciutto and Felicia Barton, a contestant in Season 8.

“American Idol” is carried locally on WJBK, Channel 2.
