Videoburst Helps Local Businesses Navigate Web 3.0

A West Bloomfield firm creates entertaining and informative videos for clients to engage in the world of social media.

David Mayer, founder and owner of videoburst, is a self-professed “creative type.” A former musician and documentary filmmaker, he has run his full-service video production company in West Bloomfield Township since 2009. Videoburst originally started as the Web video division of Mayer's documentary film production company, Mayer Creative Productions Inc., and Mayer now manages its pitches to surrounding businesses – tailoring each one specifically to meet client needs.

“I think it’s very important to remember that videos are a form of entertainment, and without the right touch, they can lose their sense of relevance,” Mayer said.

Web 3.0, generally described by internet engineers as a means of using data in web pages to be easier recognized by search engines as they are used, is used by Mayer to describe using search engines in their present state to the fullest extent of their capabilities with his video and social media networking optimization.

Videoburst takes vague ideas from those client pitches and transforms them into captivating, succinct video pieces that can be shared via company websites and other social media tools. Mayer is the company's only full-time employee, but he works closely with a team of 12 freelancers who help to identify what needs to be communicated to their clients' audience through studying their branding, then use this information to create an explanatory video that can be shared online.

Alex Hoxie of West Bloomfield, one of videoburst's freelance editors, said he helps Mayer with editing and shooting. Hoxie describes working at videoburst as "challenging but fun," and he enjoys the "large amount of creativity" that is exuded by Mayer when they collaborate on pieces.

Hoxie, along with the rest of videoburst's team of freelancers, helps take the reins on editing video as well as working with Mayer to create the right atmosphere for filming through lighting maintenance and manipulating other environmental factors.

“What we do here at videoburst is figure out what your business needs to do in order to reach its target audience through video,” Mayer said. “We review your marketing goals with you and identify what groups need to be reached in order for you to grow your audience.

"We then work to make sure that we are getting your message across and that the video pieces are entertaining and informative enough to keep viewers watching them to the end and coming back for more,” he said.

Daron Powers, a West Bloomfield-based business coach, began suggesting his clients to Mayer, then became a customer of videoburst himself.

"I was so impressed with David's  ideas that I hired him to make videos for my new website," Powers said. "I've been getting many positive responses on the videos. Mr. Mayer's approach complements and fortifies my own marketing, and I would work with him again in a heartbeat."

Mayer and his team have also worked with many local celebrities. They produced a tribute video for Central Michigan University honoring Judge Fred M. Mester’s service to the community, which featured well-known radio host Dick Purtan. Additionally, Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard and Paul W. Smith of WJR-AM were featured in video pieces Mayer and his team produced for various promotions.

Yet even when working with more notable clients, videoburst still outlines a game plan on best practices for creating an entertaining message and targeting the right audience. Mayer and his team carefully weigh authenticity, sincerity and spontaneity to create the perfect mix for a successful video.

"Most anyone can learn to shoot video, but Mr. Mayer brings a refreshing creative approach," Powers said.

"In the end, an effective video is more than pointing and shooting. Mr. Mayer brought me a truckload of ideas to make my videos authentic, interesting and effective. I only ever hear very positive things about his pieces," he said.

Pricing varies according to the work, but Mayer said having a video done for an organization is “more reasonable than you may think.” Entry-level videos can be tailor-made for “just a few hundred dollars” to start, he said.

“While there are so many options nowadays when it comes to social media, a lot of companies don’t know where to turn," Mayer said. "And that is why I think it’s important to sit down with each client – individually – and find out what they need.

“Considering how confusing Web 3.0 can be to navigate, video can be a great way to get in the game. Companies need an expert guide, like myself, to design an effective strategy.”

Mayer’s passion for video is apparent in the work he does, and he is dedicated to continuing his track record of delivering results to West Bloomfield, Bloomfield Hills, Birmingham and surrounding southeast Michigan cities.
