Day Camps Give Kids Hands On Cooking, Greenhouse Experience

Henry Ford West Bloomfield Hospital opens its demonstration kitchen and greenhouse to young campers.

Henry Ford West Bloomfield Hospital is offering one-day summer camps for children ages 4 - 14 in July and August.

Daily activities will include time in the Demonstration Kitchen, where kids will make healthy smoothies, learn about nutrition, tools, techniques and safe kitchen practices.

In the greenhouse, campers will learn basic plant care, pest management, and release beneficial insects (lady bugs or butterflies). They will also learn about solar, wind and geothermal energy.

Additional plans for the day include exercise (Zumba and yoga), and a session on pet safety and pet therapy.

Each one-day camp will be held from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., and lunch is provided.

Day camp for 4-7 year olds will be held on July 18 and August 22, and for 8-14 year olds on June 27, July 12 and 25, and August 29.

Space is limited and registration is required. For more information on costs, or to register, call 248-325-3890 or email dk@hfhs.org.
