Why go: If your kids are into nature, then go to the nature room when it’s opened. You can see live local wildlife and do lots of hands-on activities. You can talk with a naturalist or a docent and walk the natural habitat located behind the Nature Nook.

Register now for Henry Ford Hospital Demonstration Kitchen Kids
Why go: Kids ages 8-16 will make homemade pasta and easy fresh sauces.
Where: West Bloomfield
When: 11 a.m. -1 p.m. March 12

What else: All hair must be tied back and closed toe shoes should be worn. Arrive 20 minutes prior to the class. Register early; the class closes 72 hours prior to the class.

Why go: Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard will talk to parents and middle school age children on the topic of bullying. The evening is co-sponsored by the Greater West Bloomfield Coalition and the West Bloomfield African-American Parent Association.

Why go: Take your children to see a fun and funky adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen’s classic tale. Bits ’N’ Pieces Theatre uses jumbo 9-foot-tall body puppets, costumed characters, traditional puppets as well as guests from the audience.

Wild Adventure 3D/4D Theater
Why go: It’s the area’s only 3D/4D 126-seat theater that creates mist, wind and scents. (The Art of Manufacturing Theater at Ford Rouge Plant Tour also creates 4D effects, but it’s a smaller theater). Visitors receive 3D glasses when going in.
Where: Ford Education Center at the Detroit Zoo
When: Times vary but run during regular zoo hours
Cost: $4
What else: Kids must be 2 years old, but the special 4D effects might be too intense for kids younger than 5. The movie showing until mid-May is Deep Sea: The Ride.
