Why go: Bring your bike! The event is free of charge for kids ages 3-12 years and includes:

  • bike inspections
  • free bike helmets for kids
  • bike helmet sizing
  • three station bike safety course
  • fun giveaways
  • meet a police officer
  • frozen treat when you complete the course

Where: Coffee Time, 1001 Welch Rd., Commerce

When: 10:30 a.m.-12 noon Friday

Why go: State Rep. Lisa Brown (D-39th) is inviting residents to attend her office hours to share their ideas and concerns.

When: 4-6 p.m. Friday

Why go:  will conduct a Special Board Meeting on Friday, May 18 at 6 p.m. in the Media Center of , 4925 Orchard Lake Rd., West Bloomfield.

The purpose of this meeting is to approve the new Superintendent's contract. The board unanimously voted to negotiate with Gerald Hill of Glenview, IL, for the position opened after the announced retirement of JoAnn Andrees.

Before that happens, the school district invites the community to give Hill a warm welcome. 

Where: , 4925 Orchard Lake Rd., West Bloomfield

When: 7:30 p.m. Friday

Why go: The West Bloomfield Interact Club is showing Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone outdoors at the West Bloomfield High School football field, which should be a fun evening for the family underneath the stars. Interact will be accepting donations, with all proceeds going to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. In case of rain, the event will be held in the gym.

There will be a 50/50 raffle, food, and fun. Bring a blanket to sit on the field!

Where:  3951 Orchard Lake Rd., Orchard Lake

When: 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday

Why go: The docent-led Apple Island tour by the Historical Society is a spring tradition in West Bloomfield which ties together historical education and the environment. This year's trips will be held May 19-20 ($15 for adults, $10 for children 12 years and under). Sign-ups are only at the Orchard Lake Road museum.

For groups, a professional photographer is available for group photos. There will be activities and demonstrations on the 35-acre island.

New features for the tour include:

  • Genot Picor as a 1700s-era French-Huron Métis with storytelling and games
  • Mike Jewell as Mikwandahn demonstrating Native-American life skills
  • Jeff Vallender portraying a 1700s-era explorer at his campsite
  • Ed & Dennis Milkowski families portraying 1740s-to-1840s-era trappers at their campsite
