Event: Beyond Coal Letter writing party Tues. 9.24.13 6:30 pm

Join the Beyond Coal team for a letter writing party on Tuesday, September 24, 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm 1750 S. Telegraph Rd., Bloomfield Hills, MI 48302.  Here is a great example of a Letter to the Editor:

State must move to clean energy

Having recently visited northwest Ohio and southwest Ontario, I was impressed by the wind turbines in both places and dismayed that Michigan is not a comparative energy leader.

Michigan of all states should move faster on clean energy. Our lives and sources of recreation, our industries, even our memories, are tied to water. Risking our state’s future for quick profits is shortsighted and irresponsible. Risking Michigan’s water is risking Michigan’s future, and in that sense, our state’s existence as we’ve known it. And as we’ve expected to hand it to coming generations.

We stick with coal as a power source against all reason and even modernity. We see potential for fracking at a depth and scale, with a use of water, unheard of elsewhere in the U.S., even as other places ban it.

Moving to cleaner, greener energy is overdue. Ensuring clean water for Michigan’s future residents isn’t just a gratifying notion, it’s the only responsible course. Few Michigan residents will benefit from profits from fracking. Many suffer from the hazards of coal. Elegant and clean alternatives are available.
