UPDATE: Second Child Dies After Boating Accident on Sylvan Lake

Alcohol does not appear to be a factor as officers continue to investigate the cause of the accident.

A second child has died as the result of a collision between a boat and a ski tube on Sylvan Lake Sunday. 

An 11-year-old boy died Sunday; WDIV-TV reported Monday afternoon that his 6-year-old sister succumbed to her injuries as well. 

Another sister, age 10, remains in critical condition at Royal Oak's Beaumont Hospital.

The incident happened when the children's father was pulling a ski tube behind a jet Ski on Sylvan Lake, traveling south. A boat traveling east struck the tube and, according to police reports, the boat's driver, a Sylvan Lake resident, stopped to help.

The children and their father are from West Bloomfield. Authorities have not released their names, or the name of the boat driver.

The Oakland County Sheriff's Marine's Unit is investigating the cause of the accident, Sheriff Michael Bouchard said.
