Accidents Abound in West Bloomfield as Drivers Take to Slippery Roads

While the roads remained quiet during this week's storm, township police say, things picked up on Wednesday.

The roads stayed pretty quiet in West Bloomfield as a winter storm blew through southeast Michigan early this week.

On Wednesday, things got a little busier for township police, Lieutenant Curt Lawson said.

"During the storm Sunday and Monday, we had very few accidents at all, maybe one each day," he said Wednesday afternoon. "Today, we've had 22 road run-offs and 12 accidents."

The problem, Lawson said, is that people are getting back on roads that may look clear, but are still slick. If drivers are moving too fast, they may not be able to stop when they hit the brakes.

"You can't really tell in some spots that the road is icy," he explained.
